Not sure if this applies to all subscriptions made through Apple, but at least streaming services subscribed that way seems pretty easy to cancel by going to my account. That's why I prefer to subscribe through Apple rather than any other way. Services that can not be subscribed that way like Netflix and Spotify I simply ignore.
I too love having my subscriptions all in one place and easy to cancel. If it’s not through the App Store I usually avoid it.

I always subscribe through apple when offered because I can reliably cancel. While I hate subscriptions, doing stuff like AMC+ or apple tv etc. I never worry about having to deal with a person to cancel like cable or sirius xm (my god what is up with sirius xm and cancellations)

Read the fine print....

Per the WSJ, pursuant to the new FTC order on 1-click cancellation:

"Consumers can’t be required to interact with a live or virtual representative, such as chatbot, unless they consented to that step when they initiated the subscription. "

Watch this order be completely circumvented by companies slipping something into the ToS that nobody reads and then later claiming in court that customers 'consented' to their (existing if not enhanced) friction-filled unsubscription process.
Well if it’s in the TOS and you check agree, that’s consent. So this is like most things the government does. It sounds great and it makes good advertisements this time of year, but it’s actually worthless

Corp: "to cancel, send a registered mail to address xyz ..."
I had to do this for a gym membership. Nothing like waiting at the post office for 30 minutes to cancel something. The whole point is just make it more difficult so you will either put it off or forget about it.

What should be the law is subscriptions only can auto renew for 12 months. There needs to be a requirement for the consumer to agree to continue the subscription or it is canceled automatically.

They actually made it easy to get a great price this year. I thought I was going to have my annual, "You're going to have to offer me the new member price to keep me," pitch. But I couldn't find a good deal for new members on their website.

I called them, and she immediately offered me a plan for $5.99 a month (paid at one time) without any muss or fuss. That's a bargain to be able to listen to my favorite channels without ads. A steady stream of "Tom Petty Radio," makes the drives so much more pleasant compared to one song & three ads in commercial radio, when I'm not listening to sports or news, or using AirPlay.
Yeah, I honestly have no issue with SXM anymore. It used to be MUCH harder in that you had to pick up a phone and haggle with a CSM and their relentless script. Now, at least the annual dance can be done over chat. I just have to remember to set a calendar reminder, because that regular price is a DOOZY if you don't catch it and get billed for one month before you renegotiate. :D

I did a six month free trial of SiriusXM when I bought my Passat in 2007, and then cancelled, but it continued to work until I traded it in 2019.. 😆

Will this cover cable television/internet providers?

Yes.

I think this would be a great idea. Not only Apple, but so many streaming services make you go through three or four screens before you cancel. Some of them can be deceiptive with getting you to hit "Cancel" from Cancelling the Service. Not too many offer a straightforward cancel and your done.
Rule is mostly aimed at vendors that allow you to signup via the web but to call or visit them to cancel.

This is so wonderful and a long time coming.

Hopefully this is more than just online services. My husband had to jump through so many hoops to cancel his gym membership after we moved out of state.

I as I understand from reading elsewhere, it can't be an option by default, just part of the TOS, or be required for service or a promotion.

Wish they would tackle gym memberships like this. The only way to cancel them is to hand deliver a cancellation notice to the main headquarters on a Wednesday between 8:15 am and 8:17am.

The notice also must be printed on Tiffany blue paper using a Helvetica 12pt font.

And finally you must exit the office through a 4 part obstacle course where failure to meet any of the above automatically signs you up for an additional year.

I am all for this! I still have to call/chat with a SiriusXM rep each time my ”special offer” is about to expire. I would love to only have to log into my account and click the cancel button instead of listening to a long spiel from the rep about their current deals.

I find canceling subscriptions paid through Apple the easiest to manage. It’s why I pay for anything that doesn’t charge more through Apple. You can easily just cancel in the settings menu. I was recently downvoted into oblivion and bombarded with insulting comments on Reddit for saying I pay for a majority of my subscriptions through Apple. People on there claimed people like me cause subscriptions to be more expensive because I’m as they said to lazy to individually manage all my subscriptions. Truth be told I actually use more subscriptions then I would because the convenience and really have to value a product or get a good discount to use direct payments.

Love it. Apple App Store is already quite straightforward which I appreciate.

Adobe got their hand slapped recently, and when I went to cancel Creative Cloud a few weeks ago the process was MUCH easier than I'd heard it used to be.
