So what exactly is the point of this refresh?

Good point, I really hope it's not the same devices in new colours. Unless they are trying to flog off old inventory before killing the line

I would happily purchase a nano with wifi and Apple Music/iCloud Library capability so I can get my latest playlists. As someone else mentioned before, I would love a iPod Touch with the 6 or 6+ camera to take around for trips without worrying about losing/damaging my phone. In my opinion, that would really disrupt the pocket camera market.

So, 2 iPod sales here, if the capability is right...

I think you meant iPad . This thread is about iPods ( the music player)

no i was right, iPads and iPods/iPhones will be doing different functions

obviously you're not going to use an iPad for massive scan and packs and inventory scanning. you need a hand held device.

or a target or lower or walmart employee carrying around an iPod with scanning sleeve to find out inventory and if its sold out nearby walmarts that have it in stock.

and hell retail, they can buy the item and check our right there. they're not going to be carrying iPads every where. iPads would be good at a check out desk or stationary purposes.

at trade shows where they sell high volume but low end products where its almost like a retail store.

Our company has both, I've seen the uses for both and in every situation we used both iPods/iPhones and iPads to see which suits better for each particular scenario.

I was wondering if there is going to be a new 6th gen ipod touch because dont get me wrong the current gen is slow but usable for some stuff. So do you think there is going to be a new generation on july 14th let me know thanks

I think that there will be "new" iPods coming on July 14. Here's what I THINK they will be (just guesses):

1. The iPod shuffle will still be at 4th generation. Perhaps it will have double the storage, but the price should stay the same.
2. The iPod Nano will still be at 7th generation. It might have a slightly lower price. Even though it should have had a redesigned OS a-la-iOS 7, it will not (based on the pictures).
3. The iPod touch will now be at 6th generation. It will be similar to the transition from the 2nd to 3rd generation (like an S-upgrade). This will mean upgraded internals, but not externals. There will be no more iPod touch loop (based on the picture), probably because Apple didn't want to produce new ones in new colors (and probably because only a small portion of people use it). As far as specs, it will have an A7-chip with 1GB of RAM (it will be introduced in July so that they can say it's only one generation behind current hardware, even if for only two months). It will have the same 5MP rear-facing camera (again, based on the picture), and it might have the slightly improved front-facing camera from the iPhone 5s.

Just like the iPod touch 5th generation is like an iPad Mini 1 in pretty much all specs, I expect the iPod touch 6th generation to be like an iPad Mini 2 in pretty much all specs. This means Apple will save the true-tone flash, improved cameras, Touch ID, Apple Pay, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, etc. for the 7th generation (assuming this upcoming one sells well enough for them to want to produce it). My only questions is: why didn't they introduce these iPods in September 2014 to take advantage of the holidays?

So you really thank that those leaks from the new version of iTunes are real and we will see new ipods with updated hardware

Too much going on with the Apple watch and other more profitable products.

It was reported earlier in the year that Apple was planning to release the Touch 6 in the February timeframe but was having display issues (seems to indicate that they were looking at a 4.7 " design at the time) and that they were having second thoughts on releasing a Touch 6.

I'm still predicting a Touch 6 announcement in September (not July 14th).

Yes, I do think those leaks are real. Updated hardware only for the iPod touch, and only an A7 with 1GB of RAM at that.

In the past year I outgrew my trusty 80GB iPod Classic, and I recently bought a refurb 4th generation 64GB iPod touch for about $200 at the online Apple store. Over the past few years I've taken a look at the newest iPod touch and a 128GB would definitely have sealed the deal.

There is another thing that an iPod Touch is useful for, and that is a backup authenticator device for various services, even Apple's. It also is a decently secure place to stash passwords, separate from one's phone.

Of course an older style, non-iOS iPod would be nice as well, pretty much an iPod Classic, except with SSD instead of a hard drive.

About time! Hopefully they come out with a 256gb iPod touch. I would like to retire my iPod classic. But it's a 160gb and holds a whole lot of my music.

If Apple wants to invigorate the iPod touch line, they should just rebrand it as an iPad nano. Done. Thank you Apple. You can send me my check. ;-)

I've been saying this for a while now. The Touch is closer to an iPad than an iPod... it practically is a mini iPad.. its just missing a 3G model.
