This is fun, but what is really fun is watching the man in the video struggle to ‘select all’ text. By fun I mean I can chuckle at him having the exact same problem I have all the time.

Rumor is it’s going to get fixed in next iOS beta.

Someone filed a bug report already and looks like iOS 12.2 is going to fix this.

It’s a foolproof plan! Unless the user does something stupid, like, say, follow the link and realise it’s a joke.

But if people who “value the truth” take a clickbait headline at face value without investigating further, I think that reflects worse on their values than it does an innocent prank.
Apparently my wife was googling around frantically for the New York Times article that I sent her: “***** Declares Martial Law, Suspension of Constitutional Rights.”

It’s censored because MacRumors is ridiculous when it comes to anything political outside of PRSI.

It only took her a minute to realize it was a joke, but she was not amused, lol.

Yeah text selection in iOS is a total mess, it never just works first time for me, it’s always selecting the wrong thing or selecting more than I wanted or the little handles just refuse to expand on what they’ve selected. It’s not uncommon for me to give up and get the MacBook out or just manually type what I wanted to copy. I’m sure it’s got worse recently too, I don’t remember it being that bad when it was first introduced all those years ago.

I don't think anybody who just reads headlines actually values the truth.

It’s not a matter of valuing or not truth this is the manipulated metadata that appears on the inline preview of a message, do you open every single article your friends share with you?

Harmless bug but still not the greatest article/suggestion indeed.

Of course I do (unless I don't care at all about the subject). Why would you ever believe a headline without verifying it first? That would be gross negligence on your part, and if it fooled you, that would be on you.

You don’t open a shared article unless you care at all about it’s subject which your friend might have changed, that’s what this is about not the actual article headline.

I'm not sure what your point is. That this bug can be used to prank people? Or that this bug can be used to spread fake news? If it is the latter, I stand by my position that somebody who falls for such a fake headline without checking it out further has a problematic approach to acquiring information.
