Our HomePod 2 never hears us, or never on the first try. We have to walk over to it and speak directly to it. So frustrating that we sold the OG HomePod and "upgraded" to this dumpster fire. Might just get a HomePod mini to place in the same room for verbal requests.
My OG HomePod used to hear me even over loud music, when it was first released. It's hard of hearing in its old age. (though it generally works better now)

Siri is the worst "smart" thingamajig. There are dozens if not hundreds of competing speakers that sound better for lower costs. This is for people who must have an Apple branded product. Better off buying a fake in Mexico for one-fifth the price.

Errr...?

I'm the first the complain about the state the software for the devices, and the many issues they have had, but sounding good is one thing they do manage!

I have a HomePod mini and the latest HomePod, I can't really complain about both. I do run into issues every once in a while but it resolves pretty quickly and I don't run into anything that's really frustrating, although the initial set-up process could be better, it's pretty bad imo. Can't really expect too much out of a $300 and $100 device though. I do hope Apple makes a more premium HomePod in the future, but HomePods don't really sell that much from my knowledge.

In a world where Apple can produce competent software/firmware to run their speakers, I'd definitely buy a bigger beefier HomePod with a USB-C port (that can also be used to carry Ethernet via a dongle... the wifi disaster that was my OG HomePod pair have made me distrust wifi synching of speakers!)

On 17.2 my HomePods are behaving for the first time since 2018/2019!
@abatabia I'm sorry to say they started glitching again today- music briefly skipping during playback. :-( How hard it can be to buffer a single bloody song I don't know ☹️🤦‍♂️

I never had a song skip. Maybe a WiFi issue?
I do have Siri not doing anything useful and occasional AirPlay issues.

A HomePod issue. The problems have occurred while I've lived in 4 different countries with them, all with different routers... If it was a brief wifi issue, a tiny bit of buffering would have mitigated it anyway.
