I want SBSettings (or some similar swipe action to get to controls) always included in future iOS versions :D

Oh and I want the Safari browser to actually have a Full Screen mode...

I would like to have the ability to refresh a page, WITHOUT having to go all the way to the top of the page...I think they should implement a "pull up" to refresh...like facebook/other apps do similar to "pull down" to refresh...Plus would make looking at MacRumors forums a lot easier...

hey just so you know yo u can get an npr app on the app store that streams your local npr station live on 3g or wifi.

Hey supermac,

Yea, I have the app, but it strikes me as unnecessary to rely on audio streaming through 3G, which can be spotty, when I'm on the go rather than just hitting up the radio.

Thanks, though. NPR also has a great, separate music app as well. Bob Boilen is tops.

Cheers,

Hi there. Just wanted to let you know that there's a jailbreak extension that adds this to Safari. There's a second extension that also adds this functionality to the Mail app.

Thanks for responding SDRacerR1. I would like to see this as well in Safari. Ultimately, I think this, and ap3604's request for a full-screen Safari could be easily addressed by what the New York Times app has:

While reading an article, scrolling down to read further the title page gets pushed up and away (similar to Safari). One tap brings the title bar back down (without moving your place), another tap makes it go away, showing more of the page.

Simplenote does this a different way, with an explicit full-screen toggle button.

I have added these, and others to the master list.

Cheers,

I think this year is going to be a yawn-fest.

NFC that no one will be able to use for a couple years? Snooze
Improved notifications? Should have already been in iOS4. Snooze
More powerful CPU? iP4 seems fast enough from all accounts so there'll be no noticeable difference. Snooze
Antenna fix? Shouldn't have happened in the first place. Snooze
Better camera and video recording? Meh. iP4 is pretty damn good already.

What I would really like to see software wise (sorry, ain't just one):
The entire OS rotate when you rotate the phone. This is long overdue.
Themes. The main reason I jailbreak.
Lock Screen notifications. Customizable for weather, mail, etc. (the other reason I jailbreak)

Better sound management. I want silent to actually mean silent. I want to know if I'm going to hear sounds when I'm in an app or not. I'd like 3rd party apps to be able give me notifications if I'm silenced and not in the app.

More or less, either make the mute switch mute everything with exceptions you can individually add, ie, clock.app, nightstand.app. Or you could create "sound profiles" so that when your "school" profile is selected, this or that can make noise, but no other app can, or this app can vibrate but that one can't. You can have different profiles for "work," "school," "vacation," or "driving" and you could control volume, sounds, and vibration for each app in a profile and pick which profiles the mute switch flips between.

No matter how it's done, I'd just like to see the ability to know which apps can make noise when.

how would this be differentiated from moving down or up on the page? Besides, it's not that hard to tap the top bar to move to the top of the page.

I really have a hard time choosing between -

A proper accessable file system, so photo uploads work from Safari or iWork on the iPad wasn't such an usuable POS.

Bluetooth file transfer

or Flash support.

Probably the first one.

Yea, I have the app, but it strikes me as unnecessary to rely on audio streaming through 3G, which can be spotty, when I'm on the go rather than just hitting up the radio.

How is having an app that uses an existing feature (3G/Wi-Fi) 'unnecessary' when your alternative (AM/FM radio) would require an extra chip that might force an increase in the size of the phone, waste battery life, or cause interference with other, more important communications services.

Besides, who the hell listens to the radio anymore? Commercial radio is garbage; overplayed music, annoying DJs, and endless ads. If you want music listen to Pandora. If you want news download a specific app.

And in reality, data coverage isn't 'spotty'. This is just audio streaming, so even if you drop the 3G signal, EDGE is plenty fast enough.

My biggest request for future iterations of iOS is to be able to customize the ringtone for texts and emails. I want to be able to play short custom sounds (like a couple seconds, not 30-40 like phone ringtones) when I get a text or email, so I can tell the difference from other's phones and just for the fun of it.
--I've always liked the idea of hearing "Is there anybody in there" from 'Comfortably Numb' when I get a text.

Voice Turn-By-Turn Navigation

I know there are apps out there, but the prices are either jacked up, or doesn't work that great.

To have an actual built in app that has voice turn by turn navigation would be one of the features to make the iPhone even better.

The iPhone radio chipset already includes an FM tuner, it just appears to not be soldered to the correct place on the headphone socket.

waste battery life

An FM radio receiver is literally dozens of times less draining on the battery than using 3G to receive data.

or cause interference with other, more important communications services.

Err... no. The signal causes interference. A radio receiver wouldn't create interference. And the radio signals from the transmitter are already there anyway.

Besides, who the hell listens to the radio anymore? Commercial radio is garbage; overplayed music, annoying DJs, and endless ads. If you want music listen to Pandora. If you want news download a specific app.

Errr... well in the UK? 91% of the population listen to radio at least weekly.

So that's about 54 million people, for a start.

And in reality, data coverage isn't 'spotty'. This is just audio streaming, so even if you drop the 3G signal, EDGE is plenty fast enough.

Data coverage is spotty. More importantly, the 3G network simply wasn't designed to cover continuous streaming. Doing so ties up the cell towers and causes calls to drop. And the more people do it the worse it gets. 4G will not be widespread for some years.

In addition, in many countries iPhone tarrifs come with limited data - all the UK providers offer either 512MB or 1GB, and many people would be very reluctant to put a big hole in that with streaming radio.

Sound customization, for god's sake. My first cell phone (a Sprint flip back in 2003) let me customize ringtones, sms tones, and whatever else I wanted. It's ridiculous that 8 years later, Apple denies us this most basic of features.

It's the main reason I jailbreak, no lie.

The MapQuest app is free and is light years better than either Navigon or TomTom.

As far as my request? Oh gee, I don't know......TO BE ABLE TO MAKE AN EFFING PHOTO ALBUM WITHOUT ITUNES? Why is this even an issue in 2011?

If that's too much to ask for, hows about being able to put contacts into groups. That's some crazy stuff right there. My LG Vu couldn't load a web page to save its life, but by god it could group some contacts like nobody's business.

Also, x2 on profiles. I'm tired of changing the settings every time I go into a briefing, go to bed or get in the car. Ideally, I'd like the phone to automatically change the profile based on my location. When I walk in my door, it automatically goes to Home mode and turns the ringer and notifications up. But when I crawl in bed, it should automatically turn off everything except the alarm and voicemail notifications.

Oh baby :drools:

This would be one of those final nails in the coffin for Android if you cut out the Google Maps Navigation advantage...

Wow. Why had I never heard of the MapQuest app until now? Not that I need a GPS app because I keep a separate unit in my car, but it'll be great for when I'm riding with a friend who doesn't know where they're going.

As much as I probably wouldn't use them, sound profiles would be nice. My first smartphone back in like '04 or '05 (a Motorola Q) even had that. I don't know about changing automatically though, I don't know how the phone could really tell where you are.

and @Phazer: Everything you said made sense, and reading back over my post I forgot some words to note where I wasn't sure about things. And I guess it would be simple enough to put in, but it still seems unnecessary to me. It would be another app I just stick out of the way and forget about, like Stocks.

I want Wirelessness:
Wi-Fi Syncing and Wireless charging, Airplay was the first step to go away from the Dock connector.

Oh and I want the Safari browser to actually have a Full Screen mode...

Atomic Broswer Lite does all this and has tabs too. And it's free.

My biggest request:
...and multi-finger gestures.
I just don't get this. Right now I can do most things on my iPhone with one hand and my thumb. Why take that simplicity and muck it up by having to use two hands just so you can plunk 4 fat fingers on a very small screen to do something?
