The Mini will probably be kept around like the iPad 2 for years and just not updated. In fact, I can see them taking out the higher storage tiers and just make it an entry level iPad. It will improve profits using older tech and minimum specs but at old prices using Apple's profit margin concepts.

Sad, but could very well be. It's the new iPod touch :(

I don't know if I can dig it up again, but I posted some figures a while back that showed that the Mini models (2 & 4) outsold the 9.7" models (Air and Air 2) last holiday season. Just because the Mini doesn't have the best specs doesn't mean that Apple is abandoning it.

Maybe some people replaced an iPad mini with an iPhone Plus, but they're not even close to overlapping for me. The iPhone Plus is just an all around bad device in my opinion. That's not to say a lot of other people can't appreciate it, but for me, it's too big as a phone and way too small as a tablet.

It's too big to use one-handed very well, yet it's still way to small for me to sit there and watch movies on it, read books, or browse the web for a few hours at a time. That's why I will always prefer having a small phone and a tablet (or two).

I've been living with the 6 plus now for almost 2 years. I can't wait until the Fall refresh to get another phone. I agree....the 6 plus is too big for a phone, isn't pocket friendly and is too small to seriously be considered something that could replace an iPad mini.

If Apple sticks with the same 6/6plus design, I'm picking up a cheap SE to "wait out" the next major design change .....and maybe add a cheap mini 4 for light surfing, etc... In any event...not going with the plus size phone again.

Last time I looked, the Mini was the most popular model. It isn't going anywhere. Why would Apple kill a best-seller? It was demand that forced them to do it in the first place, just like the stylus.

I see a lot my friends and coworkers with the iPad minis. I really don't see full sized iPad in use while out and about. I really love the mini and hope they upgrade it.

It definitely isn't Apple's best money maker, but you're right. Killing off the mini line would mean far fewer people would own one, causing developers to focus less on iPad optimized apps, which is also bad for people who don't own or even want a mini.
