FYI: Apple running out of refurbished first generation iPhones

So wrong here. The first iPhone was revolutionary. Friends of mine played around with it and couldn't believe it. It was a fantastic device.

It did two things better than the rest. It gave us the full internet and made it actually legible and usable in the palm of our hands (preferably over wifi LOL). It also gave us a 100% touch screen interface better than any before it, and one that is still emulated to this day.

Just a response to your signature...the initial reason for people to list their "iDevices"/Apple products in their signature is so when you have a question/problem with your device, you don't have to repeatedly ask what version/type it is.

For example, I posted in the MacBook Pro forums and asked why my MacBook Pro didn't get that Multi-touch update promised in Snow Leopard. Since my signature lets you know what type of Mac I have - the reader simply responded that it isn't supported on '07 Macs. I didn't have to list my specs or whatever.

Contrary to popular belief, it isn't all about 'bragging rights'.

Ok.

-poor battery life (3GS, 4, 4S)
-poor RF (4S)
-no multitasking (iOS 4)
-screen cracked easily (3rd party cases)
-too expensive (3G)
-no notifications (iOS 5)
-no 3rd party apps (iOS 2)
-keyboard sucked (got better some

note that all of these have been fixed over the past few generations of iPhones.

The slab design eventually won out, but at the time, there were much better devices like WM6.1, BB, and Symbian S60.

My primary iPhone is the 4S. The original iPhone is a second line (used mainly for eBay business and such).

I have the AT&T GoPhone on it so the extra $10. doesn't kill me.
I rarely if ever use the DATA (unlockit.co.nz is your friend) so that isn't bothersome.

In regards to those throwing down the original, it really does what the 4S does: text and make phone calls. In fact, it does that equally as well. So, 90% of what I need my iPhone to do, the original handles the job perfectly.
For fit and finish I enjoy using the iPhone. For everything else (games; apps and internet) nothing beats the 4S, obviously.

Ah, the EDGE network. Such a shock to be used to the 4S data speeds and now even more so with the new iPad on 4G and have to go back to it, at times.

You almost feel like you could bake a dozen chocolate chip cookies from scratch by the time EDGE loads a webpage.

No doubt iPhones are 1000X's better today for all functions outside of the basics: phone calls and texts, but the original started it all and deserves a little more respect.

Just get GV on your 4S, or get a cheap 3G flip phone for $40 and you'll be all set with your Ebay calls.

It was a POS device. I can't fault them for taking a few generations to get it right, most other devices are like that too.

Verizon putting their backing behind Android, adding features to differentiate from Apple, and Apple having to come back and add those feature as well is the only reason we have usable touch screen devices today. If it weren't for both Apple and Verizon, I doubt we'd have nearly the smartphone penetration we have today. Remember that the OG DROID was a far superior device to the iPhone at the time.
