I really think this is a misaligned quote. I'm not a developer and have been installing iOS betas on my device as long as I can remember. I'm a huge Apple/tech fan and I look forward to playing around with the new features as soon as they come out. However, I also recognize the fact that this is a beta and things will inherently might not work because of that fact. So of course I'm not going to leave bad app reviews (which you can't do anymore anyway) or complain on the forums about something that doesn't work or isn't fully working like demo'd at WWDC.
But the fact that I'm not a developer so I shouldn't be able to install a Beta is ridiculous. I paid my $99 just like you did.
You people need to work on your reading comprehension. He's not saying non-developers who are in the development program shouldn't BE ALLOWED to move to iOS 8, he's merely saying people who ARE NOT in the developer program, or people who don't intend to use the beta to develop software for it SHOULD NOT (not SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO) move to iOS 8.
He's not saying you shouldn't have the option haha, just cautioning people regarding the beta.
Always have a bunch of non-developers install it on their everyday phones and then complain when things don't work. They don't seem to understand what 'beta' means or why Apple tells you NOT to install it on your primary device.
Is anyone actually using iOS 8 beta without their UDID?
I might know someone.![]()
Why not? If we pay our $99 we should be allowed to beta test with y'all big boys.
Non Dev here. Installed iOS 8 I'm just complaining bugs as I see them.Apple has fixed an issue with the activation servers so those using downloaded ipsw files without devices accounts will get a nice surprise when they next restart their device if they haven't backed up.
Exactly - just what annoys me, as previously mentioned in this forum, is people who aren't devs who download the betas illicitly and expect them to work flawlessly, the go and whine to Apple (who will obviously send them on their way) or leave bad reviews on apps when they inevitably crash, giving perfectly honest and hard-working devs a massive problem, as happened with the iOS 7 beta where Apple allowed anyone to download it from a 3rd party mirror and didn't require activation.
Anyone who needs to work for a living on these devices (including OS X) such as myself would never install beta or pre-release software, for obvious reasons of losing everything or bricking a $3k+ device.
listen people, it doesn't matter if your a dev or not. It takes more than devs to find all of the bugs in betas. Keep in mind dev's themselves hold betas tests for their apps so they need to install the latest ios beta's their own non dev beta testers devices.
So for the ignorant people out there that constantly say that non devs shouldn't have beta os's installed period. Use your brain. If all of the dev are testing for bugs. Who is gonna develop the software?
And for all you ignorant non dev's report bugs. Don't cry about them. Theres only one way to get them fixed. Report!
If all of the dev are testing for bugs. Who is gonna develop the software?
But if you payed the $99, wouldn't you be considered a "developer"?Non developer who paid the $99. I absolutely love to screw around with new software of any kind. I'll spend hours and hours fiddling with every option and feature and I consider myself a great beta tester.
I downloaded 8 on my mini first and after everything was downloaded it worked with very few problems.... and nothing major.
After a few days I installed on my 5s and restored from my icloud backup as I've done with every single upgrade in the past. Since iphone 2 I've never done a clean install.
Needless to say, my phone was very very (very) buggy. I messed around with it ALL day, rebooted the phone a hundred times and finally decided to start over and do a clean install. I had already downloaded all photos from iCloud backup and then switched on the icloud album so they all uploaded there so I decided to just do it.
I feel like I have a brand new phone. It's super fast and, well, clean. The only system issue has been that settings issue and a few apps that have quirks... But all work.
But if you payed the $99, wouldn't you be considered a "developer"?

I'm a registered developer and using it on my everyday phone. No major problems so far for me.
Folks don't be fooled by the "no issues here" comments. They may not be using any apps, or they may be using the 500 apps that you don't. What is a deal breaker for some folks others couldn't care less about. I've got some apps that I don't want to live without and they may not work for someone else who feels it's not an issue.

Pointing out that a bug exists does not equal complaining. I have seen almost no complain on here in the wake of the beta 1 release. Similarly, discussing bugs is not complaining and it certainly doesn't hurt you. Trying to find workarounds in the time being is not complaining.
IMO the people who only post "it's a beta" or "you don't know what a beta is" are the ones that aught to be banned, not the other way around.
How about actually reporting them to Apple rather than going on a 3rd party forum and complaining about them where no one will ever see it and correct it.
Actual developers deal with it and report it. It's the people that just want to play with the new tech that goto forums like this and complain.
Seems you didn't grasp my post in the slightest, no wonder this is so much drivel in here.
I'm running 8 on my daily driver 5s and it works fine. There's been a few UI bugs and the settings app crashes constantly (but works after a reopen), few bugs in Messages (but nothing showstopping to me) but other than that it's been very stable. Much more stable than the iOS 7b1.
