Anybody used this RAM? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231342 Sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Any other comments?
I have seen a lot MR member buying that RAM and in fact, I have been recommending that RAM since the 2011 MBPs came out. It's a great deal.
I installed these about a month ago into my MBP & started having problems with apps crashing. Burned a MemTest86+ CD & ran it. Turns out one of the sticks was bad (many errors starting halfway through each test pass). Did an RMA with Newegg & had some new memory in less than a week. It passed 5 passes of MemTest86+ running overnight. I'm pretty happy with it.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1136355 My post. Summary: RAM is causing multitude of issues, though I obviously could have just got a bad pair.
Yeah, this is why a always run MemTest right away when getting any new sticks. Single user mode, right?
if you got these on the shell shocker for $55 or $62 than its a good deal. Right now their priced at $83... for that price id just go buy the crucial ram for $90 also from new egg.
Dang, dunno how I missed that one. I went ahead and ordered any way. The way I figure it, as long as it passes some rigorous initial testing then ram is ram is ram.
Just installed my 8GB g.skill ram an hour ago. First had one loose and on startup it beeped. Made sure both were seated properly and everythings good. Ran a memory test via techtool pro 5, just for a minute and it looks good. Will do an extensive test later on.
The only reason I can't rock with G.SKILL Is because of the name, G.SKILL. Look at it. What does it stand for? In my mind, Gangster Skill. That's why I haven't bought it. I know it makes no sense but everytime I imagine a bunch of gangsters in some ghetto trap house but instead of cooking bad things they are cooking RAM. Then selling it on the streets for cheap. I know it sounds illogical but that's the reason I spend a few bucks more and go with Crucial. ...because look at the name! It's so much more immediate, professional, and... Necessary.
I have to agree with this, but I never thought about urban gangsters in bandanas. Is RAM really just RAM? Kind of like an HDMI cable, where if it works, it works? Or are there varying degrees of quality?
There are some varying degrees of quality in brand name. Also there are varying speeds and timings. For RAM I do tend to go with a brand I know rather than some random ebay chinese company.
There are varying degrees just as their are varying degrees of HDMI (they can be seen on a good scope, but will we really realize the difference, depends on usage).
