There are some varying degrees of quality in brand name. Also there are varying speeds and timings. For RAM I do tend to go with a brand I know rather than some random ebay chinese company.

There really aren't varying degrees of quality in brand name for the most part. All will have the good and bad sticks. Both Crucial and G.Skill are just resellers who sell rebranded ram. It's entirely possible that both use the same manufacturer for some of their product. The only varying degree of quality would come from the manufacturer. Unfortunately you don't know which brand you are getting...Samsung, Hyenix, Micron, etc.

Like you mention, buying from any known company as opposed to some guy on ebay should be sufficient.

There are varying degrees just as their are varying degrees of HDMI (they can be seen on a good scope, but will we really realize the difference, depends on usage).

I think that's a good comparison.

So apparently my RAM has been sitting in my mailbox since the 11th. What a fail.

Anyways, installed and everything seems great.

if you got these on the shell shocker for $55 or $62 than its a good deal. Right now their priced at $83... for that price id just go buy the crucial ram for $90 also from new egg.

I don't think that picking Crucial over G.Skill will give you any benefit.

I bought Crucial first from Newegg. It was bad so I sent it back. Bought G.Skill and all's good.

Just get what's on sale.
