A mini doesn't look that bad... I'd rather have a computer more functional than looks. Remember, looks can be deceiving. And to compare the two, the cube looks great, but the mini is not fugly either. I'd rather have a mini, because of its aluminum frame and faster processor, not to mention it can run Leopard. A cube? you could try, but you'd fail. end of story.

As for the adapter, the cube I got on eBay is already seriously modded so not sure if I will need to do the mac mini stuff or not. My plan is to use it and see how it goes.
that is a nice machine for a nice price. congrats to ya. i would stick with Tiger and stay away from leopard. many people have hacked their older machines to run leopard but it definitely takes a performance hit.

now if you decide never to upgrade your cube remember that it'll still be a great setup and functional in any home. you could use it to watch a DVD and lookup recipes in the kitchen, or it could be a machine for kids or guests. it could be your central jukebox... considering how much you paid for it you're going to enjoy it.

threads like this piss me off... 100% of the replies said to get a mini over a cube. but the OP chooses to only selectively hear what is wanted

you didn't post this thread asking for advice. you already made the decision, and are just looking for any kind of justification from this community. quit stringing people along and wasting their time

sorry, but it had to be said

Looking for an inexpensive desktop because my macbook has to go out for repair. Hoping to find someone who has both the mini and the cube to give me some solid (ahem) advice.

I absolutely adore the cube. I really want one of them. But when I start thinking about it being 8 years old.....

So if you wanted just a cheapo backup system desktop, which would you go for and why? Keep in mind I am a lady so LOOKS MATTER. :)

We have 2 cubes in our office and I'd say Mini all the way. I have a mini under my TV and one one in my office. I love it more than I ever loved the way the cube looks.
