Hi all,

I just pulled the stock DVI/ADC card from my G4 (dual 1.33 from single 1GHz w/ R676 mod) and replaced it with a Radeon 9600Pro 256mb dual DVI from a G5. I did a lot of research before purchasing thinking this was a viable option and have been troubleshooting and googling for about two hours now.

I AM getting video out (i'm typing from it now) but the quality is AWFUL (and somehow reflected in the screenshots.) I installed the latest drivers to no avail and zapped the PRAM. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get expected display results on this? funnily enough, before this the power buttons from the Cinema HD Display worked with the prior card and USB just fine, but that function has ceased as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That looks to be a failing GPU. Do you have another Mac to test it in or do you know if it was working properly in the G5 it came from?

I was afraid of that...

I don't have a spare one unfortunately, just a G4 cube (not sure that'll support the card) I ordered the card from The Best Part, Inc a couple weeks ago for ~$60 so I assumed it would be in working condition.

Im not sure, but I think the ADC 24V connector from G4 and G5 on the Mainboard and GPU are on different locations. Perhaps the 24V is missing to work normal.

Yup, the front and back parts are MIA on mine:

The only difference is this is a dual DVI so I'm not powering the monitors and not certain I need to worry about the extra pins I don't think

This is the card? Ok, a normal PC Card flashed to Mac.

If you used the card in this condition, I would say you can put it to trash, because the cooler is missing and you toasted the GPU.

Else a bad flashing

Ok, looks like a Mac Edition (sorry, don’t have seen the sticker on the picture), so toasted I think.

Add a Cooler perhaps you have luck and the GPU is not damaged (thermal paste needed).

The only Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb I'm familiar with is the PC and Mac edition. This one does NOT have an ADC power tab on it.

The G5 ADC ATI 9600 does not need the power tab connected. That tab is only used to power an ADC display.

Hmm it's been operable in my machine for less than 10 minutes total with no heavy load. I bet it was toast when I got it. Back to the retailer :p

Thanks for the help everyone!

Pins 3 and 11 would not make a difference in this case. If they were not taped off, the machine wouldn't even boot to show any image at all.
