Whilst it would be perfectly possible for apple to have three types of processor (look at intel: PIII, PIV and Itanium)
Don't forget the Celeron(YUCK!) they still use that for some of the very, very low end systems, and laptops.

For some reason people buying those peecee's actually think they are getting something good.. Sad, very sad. They are fooled by the MHz myth. Foolish mortals.

If this was an ideal world, we all would be able to forget about the celeron ;)

I corrected my mistake in my previous post, written about 90mins before you posted

With the eMac coming to the masses, I see Apple phasing out the iMac (G3 chip) and only having the G3 processor inside the iBook for the foreseeable future. Eventually even the iBook will come to the G4 processor. At that point, I would hope that the G5 chips are inside Mac systems, at least in the pro line (PowerBook's and PowerMac's). We might see a half year of the G3 being inside Apple systems, but after the following expo, I would suspect they would be replaced with G4 processors.

arn posted a site on the front page regarding an asian business or sumthing... the page was http://www.nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com/wcs/leaf?CID=onair/asabt/moren/192188 and the second to last paragraph read:

"The new eMac will have a 17-inch flat CDT monitor and a Power PC G4 microprocessor. According to an informed source, Hon Hai and Korea's LG Electronics Inc. will carve up the production of eMacs. Among the contract production, Chunghwa Picture Tubes will provide Hon Hai with the CDT monitors that Apple used to seek from LG. This time, Chunghwa Picture Tubes will supply 40,000 to 50,000 sets of 17-inch CDT monitors every month in accordance with its partnership with Hon Hai. Chunghwa Picture Tubes, the world's third-largest computer screen maker, is also the producer of iMac 15-inch CDT monitors."

maybe this is to lead in the G5 - by standardizing the g4 more.
