So true. That is really the only hiccup I have encountered so far. The phone screams and material design has made a lot of the TW eyesores of the past tolerable.

If you want more material - check out the material design themes in the Theme store. They make it look really nice imo 🙂

One of the earlier reported 'performance boosts / updates' fixes was to install the latest Samsung Push ...
 
I have been following this thread for a few days. I'm an iPhone user since the 3G and the iPhone 6 I've been using for the last year is nice but I want a bigger phone and I feel the iPhone 6+ is wasted space, too gigantic and doesn't offer widgets and missing features a big phone should have. Long story short, I have an AT&T Note5 on the truck for delivery. I am so on the fence, I don't know if I should open it and pay the restocking fee or just play it safe and wait for the iPhone 6S Plus.

Thanks, the themes are awesome. It changes everything from the settings menus to the dialer to contacts. Really makes TW feel gone 🙂

Nope - never got an advert like that pushed to my device ...

I have always had Samsung push installed - it's actually part of the furniture with touchwiz and never felt need to disable it. I was under the impression that Samsung Push is also the main app / conduit that actually handles Notifications on your TW launcher homescreen too, so email / missed calls / sms etc, therefore never wanted to disable it either.

To be honest - if i did i get an advert like that I would be like 'swipe it away and forget about it for fecks sake' .... Seriously lifes too short to pine over one advert when you can just swipe it away in the flip of a finger, we see enough target adverts generally in every day usage of the internet ...

Yeah I like the Material - Dark one myself - especially for nighttime use 🙂 Very clean, very stock and very nice on the eyes. Actually haven't bothered running another launcher on my S6E because the theme part with these two material ones - actually address my issues with it aesthetically. And other than that I actually like the launcher part of Touchwiz and the customisability for the app drawer.
 
The try a Samsung device for a $1 deal is a great promo.

Anyway, I'll post a review and comparison to a phone of choice soon.

Loving the device so far.

Well, you're much more tolerant than I. If ANY OEM decided to do that without giving me a way to opt out, that would be the last time I use the device until that policy/practice changed. I tolerate it with things like Google services and free apps because they're giving me a service I value without charging me a fee but in the case of a mobile device--I've just paid you $700-800 dollars so subsequently funneling me ads is simply intolerable.

And they're on top of all notifications and frackin' huge.

Can't it just be swiped away and dismissed and if you really hate it hold down on the notification to go into notification settings and tick don't show. It won't put anything like that on your notification bar again.


But yeah we all have different tolerances and peeves.


Anyway ...

Just this minute got a software update notification!! on my Edge.

Downloading now... fingers crossed it's the apps edge & new icons but I imagine it's just some routine update.

I do technically, but only in the strictest sense of the rules of the program. Using Next to purchase devices saves $25/mo per phone on our monthly Mobile Share Plan, which for us equates to $75/mo. So over the course of a year we save $900. But rather than pay for the phone in installments, I purchase the device on Next and then pay it in full the following month. And since the other two phones on the plan usually just use my hand-me-down devices 😉, I'm only buying a single device per year at full retail--works out to hundreds less per year vs. the traditional 2 year contract with discounted phone pricing--and we're not locked into a contract.

You can use Next to pay the phone off in installments and trade it in after a set period of time (depending on the installment term you choose) but then you've basically leased the phone for half the full retail price.

I know Techarchy uses the program in that fashion so if he sees this, I'm sure he can offer additional insight from that perspective.

But if it's coming from the Samsung Push app, you made it sound like you couldn't disable notifications from that app without affecting other functionality. Regardless, you're right, we all have different peeves...this would just irritate the hell out of me.

So yeah in great wisdom they decided, no Note 5 for Europe. Leaving only the S6 Edge Plus and the 64gb version is as high as I feared at just shy of €1000 here which I just can't justify when the resale value of my S6 Edge has lost 45% in last few month.

Likewise because of its high cost I doubt the Edge Plus will make up for lost sales of Note 5 in Europe.

So yeah I'll get the Moto x Style and iPhone 6S Plus next month and see what Samsung have lined up for the new year - rumor is already suggesting the S7 could be brought forward from its usual April release.

Perhaps around December I'll look at getting at Note 5 from importer like eGlobalCentral when it's inevitably dropped a bit in price.

I've had the Note 4 for nearly a year, making it the longest by far I've ever kept an android device. Love the screen and it almost makes my iPad redundant. But samsungs decision not to release the n5 in the UK has made my mind up that I will almost definitely be buying the next iPhone,.

So long Samsung. It's been good while it lasted but it's time I went back to the 'not so' dark side 🙂

In Lollipop you can turn them off from appearing in your notification area without disabling the app. It was one of the coolest additions that Lollipop brought 🙂

So I could pay it off whenever I want to?

Do people recommend getting the Note with a carrier or is it best to just get the international version?

Yes to the first question. And if the international version has full LTE band compatibility with your carrier and comes without any of their bloat, I'd get the international version (assuming cost is roughly the same).
