Galaxy S3: Apple Better Wake Up!

It's only been on the market for less than one year, and the quality is excellent. However when one speculates, erroneous posts like the one above are the result.

4S and 4 used the same screen and parts. Identical in every way except the mounting brackets. Hence this part has been on the market for over 2 years.

Calling someone else's post erroneous and then lacking the knowledge to post correct data about the topic at hand makes you look... Well, like a typical Apple devotee.

Yeah but unless you are staring at your screen you will miss those notifications. Whereas with Android, you can see them as a notification icon at the top of your phone, or get a LED or vibration notification when you pick up/look at your device. The quote below answers some of your questions about what the S3 can do that your phone can't.



As for my personal experience, what I am finding that the S3 does that my iP4 or the new iPhone won't be able to, will be finding reading or surfing the web as pleasurable as with the S3. It is no longer a pain for me to do any reading or research using the S3. Oh, and although it's a Sammy feature, I am LOVING not having to touch my screen every 28 seconds to keep it from going dormant.

For others that say they miss photo stream etc. I rely on my iPhoto to save all of my photos. I have Automator import them directly to my iMac when both devices are on the same internet connection. Easy Peasy. It pulls the images into iPhoto through dropbox.

To sync contacts I just added gmail to my OSX mail version and set up the address book to sync with google.

The ONLY thing I am missing is that damn PvZ hasn't upgraded either for my device or my country. Not sure what their problem is!

I am not tempted at all. Ugly design, worst excuse for software (TouchWiz is atrocious), and cheap build quality. I almost bought a One X, but Android personally has too many issues.

Specs do not make a device, the experience does. And I don't think any rabid Android fan could claim that an out-of-the-box GS3 can match an iPhone in terms of user friendliness, fluidity, elegance, and simplicity.

Touchwiz on the S3 is brilliant. I usually flash a custom rom and get rid of touch wiz, but not with this phone.. It's great.

Love some of the gestures/motion features and being able to control apps with voice. Really useful 🙂

Really? I may have to revisit the added features but I thought everything was trivial and gimmicky. S-voice is a shameless Siri clone, the movie window is useless, and the UI design is awful and childish.

Then add an RSS news feed scrollable widget, etc.

If so I'd find that very useful. Seems like I'm watching through YouTube clips quite often but I can continue reading the thread the link came from through the boring parts of the video or case it buffers...

You realize that if you wanted to you can do the same on Android, right?!? Feeds, Widgets etc like posted above so your not messing with the notification center. So many ways to tweak Android notifications to your liking, with iOS your sorta stuck with a half assed center, that's made better if you jailbreak though.

1. Smart stay; keeps the screen on while you're looking at it. Really useful.

2. S voice might be a Siri clone, but it's a voice command app that is useful all the same (although admittedly slow as molasses).

3. Movie window isn't useless to a lot of people, although I also don't have a use for it.

4. Voice controllable apps; radio, music, alarm clock, phone and camera. Can take pictures (saying "smile" takes a pic when the subject smiles. Saying "cheese" or "shoot" takes a normal pic.) Can snooze or turn off the alarm clock with voice. Can answer or decline calls with voice.

5. Gestures; put your palm over the screen to silence it, lift the phone to your ear when in a message thread to call the contact you're viewing. Double tap the top of the phone to scroll to the top of a list.

Plus it's really fast 🙂

i played with one for a few minutes and it does look very nice

but for now my iphone can
connect to my car's USB port and music apps will play
photo stream shares photos to Mac's, idevices and my windows laptop
iOS 5 has the best notifications. i don't know about ICS, but android 2.3 notifications suck in comparisson

Android does all that...and without the USB cord. DropBox handles all the automatic photo stream to your other devices. Im sure there are others but DropBox is what i use since i have like 70GB for free.

I never used Gingerbread but used OS's that were older and the notifications are better than iPhones are. Even better with ICS and sensational with Jelly Bean. Dont think ive EVER seen anyone say iPhones notifications are better than Androids.....which BTW they copied from Android.

Terrible copy at that. Notification covers the back button in apps constantly, swipe left gets rid of them but its still very annoying. Of course I think they are WAY better then they were, so I shouldn't complain too much.

I gotta laugh at the ignoramuses who just jump on the "Touchwiz Sucks" bandwagon without ever using touchwiz or without using the new Touchwiz Nature UX on the GS3. It's so much better than when the GS first came out. It's sorta the same way how the same people jump on the "Android is Laggy" bandwagon based off Android years ago. For some reason these people think software stays the same and never gets better. Unless of course it's iOS. 🙄

Apple and iOS fans should know that Apple will never make a phone like the SGS3.

Apple knows their big business comes from the average user. They will never, ever, release a phone with a 4.8 screen. It wouldn't make sense for their business model.

Just look at the Macs. Just this year they got USB 3.0.

If you want big powerful phones then you should switch and buy another phone, be out Android or whatever.

Stop asking Apple to give you something they will not give you. I understood this when I saw iOS 6, and that's why I bought the SGS3.

IPhones are nice easy little phones, but they are not super phones. Understand this and stop expecting a SGS3 iPhone.

To be fair, Google just declared "war on lag" with Project Butter. They openly acknowledge Android is laggy, and are taking measures to tighten it up. Implying that Android only "used" to be laggy years ago is false.

And some of those features seem moderately handy, most seem superfluous. Everyone has their own opinion, I think all of us on here need to stop trying to convert others, it's futile.

CNC machined, Apple-patented alloy, that has a similar composition to Stainless Steel. (Apple and media sources will usually just call the antenna a 'metal band', instead of whatever Apple calls it behind closed doors.
But Apple would never use Stainless steel because it is 10x more resistive than a material like copper when it comes to connecting circuitry. This is why Apple created their own alloy specifically for their external antenna; had to have better conductive properties.

And we all forgot one thing that Apple has never utilized and is extremely useful: LED notifications. And with an app like Light flow, you can pick any color, for any notification on just about any app. I love having this feature.

Light Flow only works properly if you are rooted and they state that in their discription. Im not rooted yet because im just going to wait for JB which is supposed to be here soon for the GS3 and Light Flow doesnt work for me. Never gives the correct colors i asked it to for certain Apps and then i read why.
So though it wasnt a lot, it was a waste of $2.49

...attach any type of document to an email, access files and folders on my phone, etc... And these are all stock out of the box features. If I root, I can do more.

As I said, the iphone is antiquated by comparison. And the looks are now dated as well. Hardware is woefully lacking. App selection and development is the only bright spot.

This is exactly what has been annoying me about iOS. Apple is pushing down garbage features like Apple Maps down our throats but if you want to attach files to an email, you have to run to a PROPER computer rather than doing it on your iPhone/iPad.

True and thanks for the correction on the Light flow app. i forgot that about it requiring root on North American S3's. Still, at least the stock LED notification works (even if you can't tell if it is an email, missed call or a text. You at least know you missed something.)

And don't expect JB any time soon on the S3. You know the carriers will dick around for 6 months before releasing it. (BTW, I was listening to Android Central podcasts and they confirmed Samsung already has an Alpha JB ROM for the S3. Looks like they are speeding up the OS updates.)

High pricing is relative. For you maybe it is over priced. Majority of people are paying $200 for a subsidized device. Only a small minority pay full retail price for their iPhones.

Yes, it is an Apple forum and we all own Apple products. But there were so many of us Android, Symbian, Windows and WebOS users requesting our own section of the board, that the Admin was gracious enough to give it to us. This way, the rest of the board remains Apple friendly and we don't have to post non Apple stuff there. We don't want to have to go to other forums to talk about our non-iOS devices and many of us have been here for years and prefer to comment on all of our owned devices in one place.

Now, for someone like you to just post negative comments in this section to start arguments is against the forum rules. It's called trolling. And if you persist, I will report you to the mods and they can take whatever action they see fit. Do you see any of us posting in the iphone forum with constant attacks and negative posts? Now, I shall not discuss anything with you further.
