Galaxy S4 already outdated by Galaxy S4 Snapdragon 800

Same here......I have the S4 from launch day and don't feel one ounce of regret or.......well if I had waited i might have gotten something better.
Its funny because in technology....there will always be something faster and better....just wait a few months.
Then as others have pointed out this release will not make it around for a while to the States where I am so.....makes no difference.....
 
Qualcomm should have just gotten their **** together and released the S4 800 in the Spring with the S4/One

Exactly.... heck we don't have standard LTE here in Ireland at all yet, let alone LTE-A :)

Basically look at it as what we'll be getting sometime in the future in our phones :)
 
Basically, this thread = Let's see what else we can nitpick and blow up about Android devices.

If Samsung didn't release the Plus phone with Snapdragon 800, they'd be accused of using old hardware when newer was available.
 
WTF? Is this a USA model? I'd be very pissed if it is, but then again I still have 10 days to take mine back.:mad:

Great point! I am happy with my S4....do i wish it had a the 800 processor? Will it make my phone faster? No and No....the speed bump would not be noticeable for me and how I use my phone.
Now if this was 6 - 9 months from now and AT&T had LTE-A available...then I might be interested in getting a S4 with those specs. But then they don't have LTE rolled out everywhere here in the US....so expecting LTE-A.....well that won't happen for a while......

No and even if you went to Korea and bought the 800 model it would not work on any carrier in the usa or anywhere else on the planet.

This is a special model just like the lte exynos 5 version in the same market,only a few places got the exynos 5 with lte and even if you brought that phone to the usa it would not work with our lte bands.The soc supports the bands but the firmware is not on the phone to use our bands.

The funny part is the Verizon version of the gs4 has a special snapdragon 600 chip and it supports lte advanced so Samsung is all over the place with its gs4 right now.
 
It sucks for the owners but I, as a technology and gadget fan, want technology to evolve as fast as possible.

I want more and more. I don't want to wait a year when we can have it in 5 months. Why would anyone want to wait a year for technology to move forward? It's absurd.

Give me better technology now, not tomorrow.

100% agree. That's how technology grows. No one gets it right the first time every time. There are trials, pains even, when it comes to advances in technology.

I'm glad someone's pushing the frontier. And like others have pointed out, this breakneck speed isn't hurting any S4 owner in worlds other than South Korea.

It's great for Apple to wait until they can "get things right" but I think that feels and sounds more like an excuse to upgrade marginally in the interests of maximizing profits -- and the fans eat it up. I don't know what you need to "get right" about a simple notification light, for example. Hey, more power to that business model and philosophy. They've long lost me on the smartphone front.

If the tables were turned and it was Apple constantly pushing technology at fast speeds, I think some people here would be singing a different tune. Just a guess.
 
To be fair if the original S4 with its quad core processor cant provide a smooth lag free experience then Im pretty sure this improved version wont fare much better so, seriously, whats the point?
 
This is an Lte-A phone exclusive to Korea. No need to worry about anyone's S4 being outdated until next year for the next Galaxy S phone.

The worst outdated product that i can think of is the Motorola Bionic. If i remember that was replaced with the Razr only 2 months later.
 
I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

This S4 variant will be available initially in South Korea, before rolling out elsewhere. How many carriers around the world have an operational LTE-Advanced network, however? By the time this is widely available, we're already salivating over 5G and quad-core Snapdragon 800 is feeling so last year.

There is ALWAYS something new and better just around the corner. Don't bother waiting - if you do, you're going to wait for a long time.
 
You guys better get used to it if you intend on staying with android. Now 3 months is a little extreme, but let's say 5 to 6 months as a flagship and you're doing pretty good for yourself. Samsung is only keeping pace with the field as I believe LG and others have 800 snapdragon devices en route as well. I have an S4 and I'm not the least bit surprised. One thing I know is that Samsung will continue to support the original S4 before any of the other versions. So the expected lifespan won't be affected.

I hope you're joking. LG is a joke of a brand. I was so excited with the Optimus G last year. Came out months after the S3 and was stuck on 4.1 until 2013. ridiculous for such a large company
 
Only in an Apple forum will you find people actually complaining about technology moving forward. Apple die hards have proven time and time again that they have become so conditioned on receiving such slow upgrades to hardware and software that anything else is undesirable. Apple execs must laugh at the fact how apologetic and defensive you die hards are for their slow behind the curve development model. Glad all of us Apple customers are not like this.

This is how the buying experience works.

-You want/need a new device.
-You go out and decide to buy said device. All on your Free Will.
-Technology continues to move forward.
-OEM updates said device with newer parts.
-A year or two down the road, you upgrade.
-Technology has now moved even further, and OEMs are now offering even newer parts.
-You now take advantage of even more advanced parts than you would have had from an a OEM who only updates their devices once a year.
-Hope that helps. :)

Yup. I always pose the reverse scenario. If Apple were the one offering a large variety of screen size options, if they were the one that first got rid of the physical home button, added NFC or notification lights, or smart pen usage or user replaceable batteries, etc., and Android OEMs were the ones insisting on and producing only 3.5 or 4" screens, sticking it out with the physical home buttons, refusing to add notification lights, would these same people be as forgiving, understanding, and apologetic?

If I had to guess, I'd say no.

Most of the iPhone 5's specs, if produced by any other manufacturer, would be considered a mid-range device.
 
It's not that big of a deal. Sure having a snapdragon 800 would be nice. Who knows when Samsung will bring it to other markets, and even then only two markets have lte-a. By the time carriers roll out their Lte-a networks Samsung will probably on the S7.

You're certainly entitled to that opinion. LG however is one of my favorite Android OEMs. And the Optimus G was a great phone and still is. Great design and LG's skin is one of the only ones out that's actually bearable next to Motorola's and Sense 5 in my opinion.

I've owned the Optimus G and Nexus 4.

I agree. The LG skin is fantastic, very snappy. One of the best. But the phone is letdown in a number of other key areas.

- RF performance
- battery life
- software updates (wtf, it didn't launch with 4.1?)

same issue with the HTC One. doesn't matter how great the design is when the company doesn't back their product, like other OEMs do.
