You basically said in one sentence what I've been saying. +1
Samsung simply offers a larger profile of devices that cover a range of different needs. Apple doesn't. That's why when Apple releases that one upgraded iPhone, and it doesn't match up to what people want, they are criticized more harshly for it.
Whereas if Samsung releases that one upgraded Galaxy S, and people don't like it, those people can (if they insist on having a Samsung/TouchWiz device) can go to the Note, the S-Mini. It's this wonderful thing called options.
Even if Samsung only offered the Galaxy S as their only smartphone, people would still have a perfectly legitimate reason to react more favorably to their modest upgrades than to Apple's upgrades. And that's because the Galaxy S already has and does so much more than what an iPhone can do. It genuinely is harder for them to keep adding new things each year.
But of course, that isn't even the case.

My mistake. I mean whatever that "faux" aluminum look is that the S3 uses on the sides. That really cheapens the device, in my opinion. And I hope the S4 doesn't do that.

Samsung: we've doubled the number of cores, doubled the RAM, doubled the screen resolution, significantly increased the camera resolution, and added a lot of new software features!
Apple: urm, we've put a different lens cover on the camera... made the screen slightly taller while reducing the resolution... oh yeah, and copied the drop down menu bar from Android...

I am interested in getting the Samsung Note 8 tablet if it comes in at a good price, it will be like having a giant Note II but WiFi only which I can deal with.
I have both the IP5 and Note II, and they both have great features, but when it comes down to it all the most important thing for me is not using Windows but my MBA and MBP 2012's. As for the phones they both are good in their own way, but I am getting tired of spending money to have the latest and greatest mobile device, just is not worth it anymore.
Yeah, my problem with Apple is that they KNOW they can add the features but don't.
I don't know why iFans get so mad though. Maybe more people will switch from Android to iPhone if Apple stopped playing the fishing lure games. "ooooh. We know 4''+ are great....but lets wait until the iPhone 7!!".
That's one of the biggest problems with having an iDevice. Everything you wait on. iPad Mini could have killed the Nexus 7 before it even launched. But no...Apple likes to keep their R&D team in the waiting room.
It's like why do people get upset when you simply ask a company to add certain features?

Samsung has doubled the number of cores but only four will run at any one time according to all the rumours, so it's not like doubling the cores is any kind of speed advantage. But yeah let's all fall for the marketing hype 😉 The real benefit will be from reduced power consumption when the device uses the A7-quad for low power tasks 🙂
Significantly increasing the camera resolution is not an advantage on its' own either. In fact, it just results in noisier images and increased file sizes.

I should have worded that better. The PPI on the iPhone 5 is lower than the iPhone 4S.
I don't know how you make the leap from "not all cores will run at once" to "no speed advantage at all." Four A15's is still nothing to sniff at.

Reduced power consumption + bigger battery = very good update if you ask me.
It depends on how the rest of the camera lens has been updated. I know megapixels aren't everything.

iPhone 5: 326ppi.
iPhone 4S: 326ppi.

I said doubling the cores will provide no speed advantage as only four will run at once. In other words this processor would be just as fast if it only had the A15-quad. I know full well it will be an absolute beast in terms of speed. 😉

Not arguing with that. You appear to think I'm slating the Galaxy S4 when I'm not. I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement just like you. I'm just trying to correct a few mistakes made by you, that's all.
Then we agree! We cannot assume its better until we hear the rest of the specs.

My bad then, looks like I was mistaken. It was still lazy of them not to up it when the technology exists though, especially when they were the first company to put such a large emphasis on high pixel density in the first place.
Either way it's still better than Apple's dual core A5 😀

The AMOLED on the S3 is a beautiful display. Compare it to an LCD and the LCD will look like a washed out pile of crap. Then again it's subjective to a degree.

Apple has marketed the retina display as being the perfect resolution, so for them to change it would kinda be an admission of defeat.
I would rather have a lower resolution display if the differences are negligible (and on a 4" screen, they ARE negligible) if battery life will be better.

Again, we can't possibly say that at the moment. Judging speed by number of cores or clock speed is illogical. Wait until benchmarks are posted and people actually use it. It's fairly safe to assume it will be better but you shouldn't state that as fact before you know for sure 😛

I know I don't bother toggling anything on or off on my iPhone - simply leave it all on because the battery can handle it.
Not true with my Nexus 4 where I'm constantly watching my wifi/BT usage and location access (JuiceDefender takes care of most of it for me now).
Quick Toggles would be nice, but ultimately not really all that necessary.
I've been confused on the quick reply thing - I thought they had implemented something like that in iOS 6 though that may have only been for calls....regardless, I don't see a quick reply system in the stock Android messenger either and both have alternatives available on their respective app stores. iMessage alone makes up for pretty much any other messaging deficiency in iOS for me...
Plus, Siri can always send a text for you 😉
