If you cross reference the time to the time the Android police article was published you would realise I read it from there.I didnt post the link as if you had just done a simple search you would have seen it as a headline

I am currently enrolled in the CFA program and although I am not entirely an complete expert on this (still learning) we dont look at absolutes when we compare 2 or more peer companies. We first standardise them by making them as a percentage of an important metric like sales and then we compare it to competitors so see how much the company gained or how its financial statements are structured relative to its past

As I said, read up on common size statements.

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/111413/commonsize-analysis-financial-statements.asp

http://www.netmba.com/finance/statements/common-size/

"Common size ratios are used to compare financial statements of different size companies or of the same company over different periods.By expressing the items in proportion to some size related measure standardized financial statements can be created, revealing trends and providing insights into how different companies compare"

Samsung's mobile division isnt compable to LG's division because of differing scales so from an analytical perspective,LG lost more than Samsung.Absolute numbers dont mean anything in finance.Samsung Mobile sells much much more than LG does.So to compare the 2 we need percentages to see how they both performed

You don't seem to have a problem linking now do you?

Billion > millions

Seems like Samsung's luck is not working this year. They thought of S7 to be the best phone of 2016 but it burst into flames. Then they thought to cover up the situation by launching S8; now S8 production is suspected to abort. I think Samsung should cease all the productions for the next two months and wait for the luck to turn its side...!

Yup.No problem on Mac or PC.Its a little tiresome on an iOS device as I use Tapatalk.Maybe if I used Safari it would be easier.

Billion > millions
So,if an investment is worth $10 compared to $5 an year ago.I gained $5 on my investment. If an investment worth $30 a year ago is now worth $40 and I earned $10 on the second investment. So 2nd investment is better right as 10>5? Thank you for your insight if you believe this :)

Your going to blame the iPhone because you substitues billions with millions and hoped no one would notice, sure ;).

Now your going more off topic.
Do you not understand that the exploding note 7 is going to cost Samsung 19 billion dollars.

19 billion > 5 or 10 dollars.

Your in a cpa program and are having trouble understanding that billion > million.

And you are missing my point here .I am not denying Samsung had more amount of losses .I am saying that their 96% decline which you pointed out after the Note 7 debacle is nothing compared to the decline which LG faced as it went from a $68M loss same quarter last year to a $132M loss in q2 2016 and now a whopping $389M loss .
Samsung's losses only in absolute numbers exceed LG which is natural considering their mobile division valuations.Yet Samsung did not lose as much money on their invested capital as LG did on theirs

Yes a typo.It happens sometimes.I frequently switch between keyboards.Which is why the number before it was accurate

In finance the amount of losses don't matter. The percentages do which is why analysts look at common size income statements and common size balance sheets to get the absolute numbers out of the picture .In relative terms the one who lost the most is LG as they lost more than 100% of what they earned last year and last quarter
Sounds like all those keyboards and switching are just brining up more and more continuous troubles, from spacing and punctuation weirdness to "typos", etc.

They do have their own uses.I use WordFlow for one handed mode,Flexi for number key on top,Swiftkey for accurate predictions etc .Apple's default keyboard is good when it comes to those buttons as I find them wide enough to tap properly compared to the others but it lacks a hella lot features

Niche uses perhaps, but overall seems like more commonly weird spelling, punctuation, and typos than anything else.

The S7 is still one of the best of 2016.
The Note 7 went up in flames... literally.

Rumors about the S8 are just that... rumors. There's no way in hell they would "abort" production of the S8.
That would be a financial disaster worse than the Note 7 fiasco.

I like arguing about nothing, hehe. Just to play devil's advocate I'd be happier earning the $10 as it's more than $5. I totally get your point that 5 to 10 is a 100% return, where 30 to 40 is only about a 30% return, but $10 is still more than $5. If anything I'd kick myself in the butt next year and put more money into the $5 investment.

Holy crap, how did you guys get to something so insanely far from the original thread?!?!? Who thinks the sky is blue? Is it really blue, or does it only appear blue because of the time of day? What if we throw up a stuffed bunny, then is the sky blue, or does that mean Samsung lost a lot of money? Oh the questions, I can't keep up.

What a shame, the death of the best phone of 2016 followed by not releasing the S8. I guess the S8 was based on the Note 7 enough for the battery issue to be a possibility on it. Better safe than sorry. Samsung just divert all your mobile energy into foldable screens/phones!!!!!!
How is it the best phone of 2016? It's a ***ing death trap! The fatal flaw is part of the phone's design. If it wasn't there then it wouldn't be an S7 Note - it would be an S7 Note mkII. But the mkII does not exist. And the phone you speak of is fatally flawed - hence NOT the best phone, but the WORST phone.

SMH. I'll never understand people who say this.

(And by the way, Samsung have just issued a recall of 2.8 million washing machines in the US after the doors started flying off mid cycle. Something is seriously wrong with their QC.)

Yup. Not to mention their home appliance division is spinning out of control...

I bet they are the best washing machines of the year though despite burning your house down. It takes the edge off seeing all your belongings smouldering in a heap as the fire brigade leaves a taped off scene, knowing it was a pretty amazing washing machine I bet.

Obviously it has a fatal flaw, otherwise in my OPINION it would have been the best of 2016. That's not saying much as 2016 has been pretty lackluster. Xioami has put out much cooler stuff just this past month.

In any case chill, I'll never understand forum members who get so worked up over someone's opinion of a phone.

Why do people keep on brining up this washing machine? Go and Google hotpoint if you want to see real washing dryer machine horror stories! And guess what, that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Samsung's mobile devision either..

And somehow we are bringing China back into it all once again. ;)

I would imagine it is used as an example because it is the same brand and it's a few people poking a bit of fun. I'm not offended by it despite being a Samsung customer myself.

Hotpoint are really suffering in Europe at the moment with their tumble dryer debacle. I doubt many are being sold until they take it more seriously than they have been.

So perhaps I'll google later any faults Samsung built ships have had and post them here because it's the same company? I don't read it as poking a bit of fun but more desperation to add to the argument.

You're free to post what you like, although 2 electrical goods catching fire from the same brand is closer in relation to a ship but it's up to you. ;)

I'm not brand loyal myself so don't tend to get annoyed by a bit of fun poking.

the thread title has already been proven to be false as well. Some are desperate to throw mud and stir stuff up....

Actually claiming Samsungs washing machine division has anything what so ever to do with its mobile division is just as stupid as saying its ship building division does.

I'm hoping the Surface phone line has a Note inbuilt stylus clone...

The Note 7 was truely awsome, prior to The Incident.

I was just saying they are closer related due to the technology involved, whereas ship building is heavy industry. At the end of the day nobody here thinks they are related because they are from different parts of the company.

I design lorries for a living and if somebody mocked car fires and related them to my industry, I'd probably chuckle but be secure in myself to know there is a world of difference.

I think yourself and a couple of others take this sort of thing far too seriously. It's very easy to accuse others of being anti Samsung in this instance just because they are not full of admiration for the way they bungled this recall. Like myself, I bet most people here are Samsung customers in some degree. None of these companies pay me a wage so I don't see why I should be reserved about poking a bit of fun. ;)
