While this is true, I got the SNES with two controllers and five games for 1/3 of the price of a Wii. And I have little desire to play Wii games, so a used SNES is a MUCH better deal for me. :)

Just keep on telling yourself that. ;) You got gypped, the the SNES can only play SNES games. :p I'll take convenience, modern upscaling, choice, and better controllers over "cheap!" That's a WAY better deal for me. :)

And playing SF2 with a SNES gamepad was never a good thing! :p

I'll take convenience, modern upscaling,

I wasn't planning on rebuying my NES catalogue but since all the new TV's I've come across don't seem to handle NES, well...

So I was out of loop for a while. Have Master System games hit the VC yet? Or do we at least know how much they'll cost, don't think I'd pay 500 points for them (dunno why I think they'll be NES price to be honest).

A good game will always be a good game.

Not so, I'm a big fan of football (well, soccer) games but playing the ones I played on the PS2 a few years ago (ISS to be precise) makes me feel stupid at how I felt they were good.

N64's Glover has also lost its magic.

For now, I'm happy to stick with the 360 and wait for a cheaper PS3 to make me upgrade.

This month for Japan, later for the rest of us. :(

My first console was a SMS, so I'll be picking up some of the cheese I loved when I was a kid, cheese like Miracle Warriors and Zillion for starters -- given they're made available. At 500 I would be OK with that, but I personally think that NES and SMS games should only be 400pts -- Phanatasy Star 1 is well worth 500 though.

I wonder what they'll charger for GameGear games? I would only want to pay about 200 for those and GBC games, and only 100 for GB games.

Um, no I didn't (get "gypped"). I got EXACTLY what I want for 1/3 of the price of a Wii. The Wii has nothing to offer that I would want. I actually prefer playing those games on the original system with the original controllers.

The Wii may be a better deal for you. The used SNES is a much better deal for me. Fairly simple, no?

You got ripped if you paid 83 bucks for that. Round my neck of the woods a SNES is about 10 bucks or so and games are usually between 2-5 bucks...maybe 10 for a AAA title. Really not worth more than that...well if you're happy then it's worth that to you.

The best way to follow gaming is to stay one gen behind. The nostalgia hasn't kicked in and driven prices up and everyone's selling their stuff cheap to move on. Right now back in my hometown in the US Xbox games are going new for less than 10 bucks. Some as low as 2. You can pick up a unit for about 30 bucks in the pawn shops. Way good deal. But you go back a generation before and there's some nostalgia setting in and prices are actually higher than for the XBox. You watch, when the 360 replacement hits, watch the price of XBox stuff go up and 360 stuff tank.

Haha, sorry. But that's an extremely poor example. I'm talking about these good games such as FF, Metroid, Mario etc. I'm playing through FF7 on my PSP for the very first time and it doesn't feel old in any way, it really is better than any other RPG on the market. Even though it was the first 3D RPG it got everything right - the story, the music, the perfectly tweaked gameplay. I'm also getting this from Castlevania SoTN on my PSP, despite their being newer, bigger and technically better 2D and 3D sequels out. It's better than the lot of them.

Just as MGS1 is better than any other game in the series, or how people say that Ocarina of Time is better than Twilight Princess despite the 10 year age gap.

You kids and your "new" consoles eh

Gaming a generation behind is the easiest way to save money. Especially like the PS2 where they are still releasing new titles for it (although that is slowing down). I still go back and play xbox for halo system link with all my friends. Not all of them have 360's yet, and its really easy to find an xbox, halo, and a controller. XBConnect FTW.

You can definitely save money by gaming a generation behind, but you can even game at the current generation and spend less. While I paid retail for a couple of games on my xbox 360 pro, I definitely will be waiting it out for most games. Like mass effect: it started at 60$ and now you could get it on amazon for 40. I'm gonna wait to get it for 20$ on craigslist or something.

You got gypped. :) Check out this console, it plays both SNES and NES cartridges.

As much as I like the old controllers, I'm grateful for the Classic Controller. I prefer comfort over nostalgia in this case. If I wanted, I could plug SNES controllers into the Wii, it's just not worth the cost of the adapter. I hope you're at least looking into arcade sticks for SF2 and not those cheese sticks Nintendo offered back then. I went out of my way to find actual arcade sticks for my SNES.

Simple... Whatever makes you happy. ;)

I am blown away by the amount of people I know who have bought ALL 3 CONSOLES and have games for ALL 3 CONSOLES

I just couldn't even imagine spending the money on all three and buying games for them. I really couldn't AND I have a nice job with an apartment that I own so i live well

I have just a PS3 and am very happy with it. I buy some games here and there but use the Blu-Ray part of it the most. That is how I justified the expensive buy. I thought I was getting a Blu-Ray player + PS3 video game system + Free Online Service + Reliablity that I had with my PS2 :)

Oh yeah. I am still playing Gamecube games that I haven't beat (RE4, Paper Mario, Twilight Princess... finally won Tales of Symphonia during my Christmas vacation). And, when I feel life is getting too easy, I play a few hours of Ikaruga.
I also have an XBox that I use mostly for XBMC, but I still play Baldur's Gate and X-Men Legends every once in a while.

I recently purchased a Sega Saturn, with two arcade controllers and some fighting games. I am thinking of installing a modchip to play all the excellent shoot'em ups that came out on that platform, since they have become collector's items and sell for upwards of $100!!
