typical apple sheep only see one side and the best deal for games is MBP 16 for over 2K o_O
if you have a brain you can find brand new laptop for about the same during Black Friday event but looks like you haven't

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Gaming-R5-3550H-GeForce-Windows/dp/B07S2ZLNS2/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=gtx+1650+laptop&qid=1574528381&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&sr=8-3&th=1

GTX1650 is about the same like GTX 1060
Don't use Win 10 if you don't know how to use Windows Update, I see why person like you have problems with Windows 10, no logical thinking from sitting constantly only on MacOS, the 'problem' is sitting between chair and keyboard
Well that's just needlessly rude dude. Many people actively hate windows and it's why they're on a mac. It truly doesn't matter if you can get a machine that's 50x more powerful for the same price, unless it's running osx then many people won't want to deal with it.

And why would I spend over 1300 euro on a sgarbage laptop if my main machine already has the same gaming performance and ,you know, is actually useful for doing work? You are essentially telling I should buy two laptops. This doesn’t make any sense.

Where I said about buying 2nd laptop ? where is 1300 euro? this is laptop is £600 (about 700 Euro) and gaming performance is similar to MBP 16 with upgraded graphics, this topic is about gaming on MBP also do you think on this gaming laptop you can only play games and is useless for everything else?

1. I opened your link. It told me 1300 euro. No idea. Maybe it’s cheaper in your country.

2. I cannot use the laptop you linked for work. I need battery life, I need a good CPU, I need a very good display since I’m staring at it all day long and I need a WiFi that can utilize my gigabit internet connection. So i can’t use this laptop in any way except of gaming (and it’s not even that good at it). Since I already have my MBP, I can just game on it and Have better experience and save money and not have junk in my home.

3. this thread is about how well the new MBP can run games. Not about whether it’s a good choice for a gaming laptop (obviously no one in their mind will buy it if the only thing they care about is gaming)

The laptop you linked is useless since a) it has a slow CPU b) it has crappy battery c) it has a crappy display d) it has a bad form factor

Your useful contribution to this thread is zero. We all know that one can get a cheaper used laptop that will outperform the MBP in a specific area. The point is that there is no other laptop that will outperform the MBP in every area - at any price point.

So 5300M is enough and 5500M 4GB ain't worth it?

For us gamers base model is where it's at?

I’d say that if you want to play games, you want the 5500M. Every bit of performance matters with these mid-range cards. The few % can very well mean a practical difference between playable and not playable.

For examble my young brother tried on mine 5500m 4gb vram d3 and i saw some test online on 5300m
The diff on the same settings is around 9-11 fps so for a game that runs at 50 fps on 5300m with 5500m you get that 60 fps

Very nice, keeping your mind busy :)

I ordered the base model but with a 5500M 8GB as I thought it would make a significant difference for gaming but early tests seems to show the difference is between 10% and none. Doesn’t make those 200 € cost efficient at all and I will probably end up returning it for the base model

I need to place my order early next week. Think I’ve settled on the base model with the 4GB 5500m.

I have the base model 16 and wouldn’t pay $1 more for any upgrades. I am running league of legends 4K at 150-200fps. What more do I need when my 4K monitor and MacBook Pro screen are both only 60hz anyway?

Although, I could use a 144hz monitor no problem anyways based on my results.

If you’re trying to play anything intensive or non-casual, you shouldn’t be spending money on a 5500m that won’t improve nothing. Buy a windows gaming PC in this case.

Amazing news could you test other games?

Is it normal, that if I play Dota 2 the fan RPM go up to max and the noise is around 59db. Can anyone confirm that?

Has anyone been able to get games to run at less-than-native in Bootcamp and actually get full screen working? The scaling is not working in Doom 2016 or GTA V for me, but it is okay in Sunset Overdrive. Not sure what's not working right.

There are no quiet laptopS when you are gaming..doesnt matter if they are thin or not. Even that acer predator x21 is far more louder..bec with thickness comes more gpu power. Maybe if you find a laptop twice as thick with just 1050 inside, but there isnt

I received my 5500M 8GB MacBook.

Getting 45-60fps on native resolution all settings low in Modern Warfare. I decided to max out the settings in Black Ops 4 Zombies and manage 30fps.

This card might be capable of gaming, but I did get some severe throttling that made games unplayable. I disabled ULPS (I think so anyway) and disabled turbo on the CPU (you don't need much CPU power to run games at 60fps anyway; 8 cores are overkill) and managed to play games without any throttling despite 85C temps. Fingers crossed that the throttling is solved.

If the throttling doesn't come back, then we finally have a mid-tier gaming MacBook. Games absolutely pop on this display.

My biggest issue with gaming on 2018 MBP was keyboard and palm rest temperature, around WASD keys it was so hot that it was making it very uncomfortable for me to rest fingers on them. I bough an external numpad, but couldn't reconfigure all the games. Pretty much gave up on it.

Just wondering what are your impressions with surface temperatures on the 16 inch, is it warm to the touch while gaming?

Does anyone play Elder Scrolls Online? Just ordered a 2.4GHz/32GB/1TB/8GB 5500m MBP. My only experience of gaming on a Mac was Civilization 2 in 1992 and Neverwinter Nights in 2003, so a while ago. Lol. If anyone knows, just wondering how ESO will run?

Also, I know it’s possible to run Bootcamp from an external drive, but how significant is the performance hit? iI don’t want to partition my internal drive because it is only 1TB, and SSDs seem to like a lot of free space to run optimally. I have a spare USB-C 1TB SSD earmarked for Windows 10.

Can u tell me about the performance of Dota2? And which model you bought. I Only play dota2, would be huge to know that.

How does playing games of an external ssd affect performance? Might have been a mistake to stick with only a 512gb internal ssd

Regarding Elder Scrolls Online - I played this a bit earlier this year on the family's 2012 Macbook Air: low settings, still a bit choppy but perfectly playable and quite cool game. With your incoming rig you're sure to do quite fine 🥳.
