How soon will you be seeing the D700? I just want to know what you find, just to make sure it's not just me. If you get the same results we'll have to figure out the root cause, power-supply or the drivers...

Coming back to MSP July 1st around 9pm; Will go straight home; Next morning first thing is to update moto registration. Then to the office to fix servers. Then probably will visit our range and swing through noodles&co. Around 5pm will get back to office, and will likely have 2-3 hours to replace cards and test some games before the Casino (probably turtle lake in Wisconsin)

So July 2nd between 5pm to 7pm or so

Weird/depressing- 6 core with dual D500s here and running the 14.3 (latest) official drivers from AMD. I'm seeing pretty crummy performance all around. BUT when I play through Parallels (where the FirePro drivers are disabled entirely), I see beautiful performance...

Seems to imply just really bad drivers on the Windows side. Am I alone in this?

Even in Parallels you are using some type of Windows Drivers on top of Mac OS X. So should be slower. So Under Parallels if you can bring up Windows then start to control panel and then Device Manager. Then Display Adapters the plus sign, what is listed there?

Also do you have some examples between the Bootcamp and Parallels? I assume you are using the AMD 14.3 under Bootcamp?

That simply can't be. There is something wrong at your end.
With a little OC, i play GTA 5, BF 4 and BF hardline on ultra with 2560 x 1600.
Never drops below 60 fps.

Try reinstalling you drivers.

BTW, it cannot be true that you get better performance in parallels.
Parallels does not even have a support for latest direct x on top of it being just
an emulation, and all it comes with it.

Well, Parallels uses some wine code so it's more at the translating side than emulating side when it comes to 3D.

I hope you still have this planned in your schedule? I haven't heard nothing about anyone else over clocking the D700 to the same kind of results as D500. You would think people would want to look into this...... I've given up on trying for now. I'd love to hear what you find or anyone else that might of tried.

Yeah. About to start packing bags. Will test nMP transportability as well.

An update for those concerned,

D500 to D700 upgrade was a semi-success (or semi fail). B Card came DOA (or i messed up thermal compound and fried it). In any event, the replacement is on its way

In the mean time I am running D500+D700 setup (D500 being the card with SSD slot, and D700 the other one);

Both OS X and Bootcamp are taking it fine. Crossfire works.

Decided not to stress it to much but I am seeing 7+10fps increase in all tests/games and what is more important, there is no input lag on BFHL everything on ultra 4x AA with FPS close to 100;

D700 runs hotter. Also 920mhz core clock is the max. Past that - blue screen of death.

I have to say, those performance numbers of stock D700 CrossFire are somewhat near AMD Fury X(single). Not as fast as it, but somewhere in the range of it.

Well GDDR5 is almost half the speed of HBM and its 200 MHz slower than Fury X. But getting to 5% of the performance of Fury X, despite it is very impressive.

I know I had my D700 up to 950 Mhz with overclocking. So that seems odd, but then again the D700 I have didn't seem to improve much for performance when over clocked. I hope you get your replacement D700 soon! Also once Windows 10 comes out and drivers are there I'll blow my Windows 8.1 install away for clean install of Windows 10.

do you gamers actually play games for fun or do you just spend all your time testing performance
its fun to tinker around with hardware and experiment with it. kinda like people that work on custom cars, etc. its a hobby.

Are you able to decide which GPU is the "compute" one and which is the "display" one? It would be nice to have a d700 for rendering and a d500 to drive the screen.

Got back home from coast to coast moto trip;

Replacement D700 is here and is now installed and seems to work fine; Did some test, valley, burn outs - seems to be running much smoother especially with AA but it does get hot! Reached 97C at one point;

Will try to clock it up a bit! With D500+ D700 I could only overclock D700 to about 15%;

Have no idea which card was doing what in D500 + D700 setup, but I did get better FPS in test and BFH; The one that came DOA originally was the one you put SDD into.

And its no go with overclocking ...

With stock settings running burn test - good fps - temp stays 89-91C; GPU freq fluctuates 350-859MHZ

With overclocking to 860MHZ and PowerPlay disabled, GPU reached 100C in a minute; 30 seconds after 106C and shutdown

:-(

Temp is consistent between the cards. Redid thermal compound using droplet approach, same thing; Fans on max;

Will try to put it into a freezer tonight, will see what happens

What kind of fps are you getting with the dual D700s in BFH?

Too bad that there is no overclocking potential. :(

I am in a field mode now - only have 1920x monitor so can't compare to results I had on my 30";
On HD resolution, with 2xAA, ULTRA, random maps, I'm getting 120-200fps, with ~140 being most common (seems fire and similar effects affect speed most); Temp 91C;
Core Freq appears to be locked at 850MHZ; As long as GPU load varies, it seems, system manages to keep GPU temp under 100C; With constant load - you have maybe 30 secs;

I am still wondering if I am doing thermal paste right, and it seems one card is hotter then the other ...
