I assume it's on the new shuffle, why not? I don't think there's any excuse not to do it on the original shuffle, not everyone listens shuffled.

Can anyone confirm that there's no update for it (at least not so far)?

There is an excuse: it's a different generation. I have no expectations that my 3G iPod will gain this ability, and I don't expect that the 1G shuffle will get it.

And there is no update. The only update I got for my shuffle was 1.1.4, which is a few months old and I hadn't downloaded it yet.

i have a question about this feature. i manage my ipod manually. when i first opened itunes 7, there was a progress bar for gapless. my ipod was not attached. how do i get the gapless information to my ipod without updating automatically?
I also manage mine manually. When I connected my ipod (after updating its software) there was another gapless progress bar for the ipod which now plays gapless where appropriate.

What does the gapless playback option do in the Get Info of an album? The only reason I ask is that gapless playback seems to be working great in iTunes even when that is set to the default 'no' rather than 'yes.'
If you have crossfading turned on, the gapless tag sets whether to ignore the crossfade effect or not.

Lame. It's like reinventing the wheel. This has been done on so many levels that I laugh at Apple for taking this long to implant it. I've personally been using gapless/crossover for years w/ Winamp. It's not very Apple innovative imo. I can't believe ppl are so siked out about it lol.

If that's Apple's excuse, then it's a lame one.

According to Steve Jobs himself, gapless playback was the number-one requested feature for iTunes/iPods.

And it was owners of iPods making that request. So, why not give those owners what they want for the devices they already have?

I've owned three iPods (the original iPod, the iPod photo, and the 1G nano), and every time I've purchased a new one, I've used Apple's feedback form to request gapless audio.

I don't expect Apple to provide gapless playback to my first-generation iPod. But why not my iPod photo and 1G nano?

OK, I just restored my iPod Photo 60GB w/software version 1.2.1 and there is NO gapless playback! There is still a one second "hiccup" in between songs! Tried setting the albums I added as "gapless albums" and still no luck!

If anyone gets this to work please post it! :)

gapless works fine with Madonna's Confessions on a dance floor (the only album in my collection that was meant to work without gaps that I know of)

Have iPod 5G, have installed iTunes 7 and updated the iPod to 1.2. (for the iPod software update to work you need to check "search automatically for updates" in the iTunes settings, you do NOT need to erase iPod content).

iTunes checked my library for gapless content and afterwards it just worked.

Strangely, if I get info on the Confessions songs, it does not have the check for the gapless option, but it works nevertheless.

can someone clarify the following: Gapless play back is in itunes 7 now? And if I do the ipod update on my old ipod I will have gapless play back as well? tell me yes so I can finally enjoy listening to my mix cd's.. especially on the ipod where you cant controll the crossover.

thank you.

gapless BURNING?

So... I don't know if this has been asked but do we get gaples BURNING now in iTunes? I know you could always set the gap to "none," but there'd still always be a hiccup. Is that totally gone now?

What I noticed is that some songs have a minute of silence after them now, which is odd. I'd say one in every 100 I scroll through do. I don't know why, but it does.

Yes it does burn gapless. I just tried Dark Side Of the Moon (ripped from CD) and Ivan The Terrible (purchased from iTunes store). Both play back from CD with no gap. :)
