Garage Band

Please HELP me

I am in Garage Band and I just finished transfering a song from my cassette player to Garage Band. The question I have is how can I edit the first part of the song that I do not want so I can move it to iTunes

To avoid starting another Garage Band thread, here is my question:

I currently use Melody Assistant to write music notation, nothing fancy mind you, but the key is designate notes on a a blank sheet of music versus playing those notes with an instrument. I'm wondering can you easily write music notation in Garage Band? If so how? A link would be good. I've looked around and the answer is not apparent.
