Does anyone know of a good book or other source to actually get started with GB? It seems pretty powerful but also really undocumented. I don’t really “need” Logic but at least there are books and lots of intro resources.
Apple used to authorize some nice in-depth professional series (I think that’s how it was phrased) but the one for GB seems to be old enough it isn’t relevant.
The app you chose to install in the first place. What a pointless comment.
Leave this thread for people who appreciate Apple giving us great software updates.
GarageBand 10.3 is unusable. It's introduced a serious bug.
GarageBand 10.3.0 has broken support for third-party AU virtual instruments. First it puts up an error message saying that you have to choose to reduce macOS security in your System Preferences to use a certain third-party AU plugin.
Then after you do that, it gives you an error message saying "Audio Unit plug-in can't be used. The Audio Unit could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance."
I have had this problem with 64-bit, up-to-date plugins that work just fine with no problem in MainStage 3.3.2 and other apps that use Audio Units. So the problem is with GarageBand 10.3.0.
I had no choice but to revert to GarageBand 10.2 from a backup so that I can keep working with my AU instruments.
I don’t understand, why people come here, moan about the update of a software (excellent software, if I may say)
they don’t use. What the heck are the people thinking
The Jazz brush drummer is good, but was hoping for something along side of Buddy Rich drum work
Looking forward to the update on IOS

That's a serious issue. And it's also why I keep an old version of Garageband as backup prior to the user interface overhaul.
I updated my machine this morning prior to going to the day gig, I'll have to check this out. I have a lot of virtual instruments.
"Garage band was unable to install the new sounds". The message says to turn it off and on again, but that doesn’t work. Any ideas?
Hi. What are the drummer's names? I can't find them.
My speculation is that all of these "celebrity" music lessons were the result of individual business contracts struck with the artists' business management. My guess would be that Apple's license to use Sting's lessons was for a certain number of years, and that license has expired, and Apple didn't want to pay what Sting was asking to renew the license. Apple decided to make the library of lessons free to all, which means Apple no longer earns income from selling them, which means Apple saw no point in paying more money to Sting according to his license contract. On the flipside, the users benefit greatly from all the other lessons from other artists being made free.Yes, but some of them have been removed. ... all of Sting's songs are gone.
For many years I've had a Time Machine backup of my Mac, on an external hard drive. What I did was use Time Machine to restore GarageBand to the state it was in the day before I installed the update to GarageBand 10.3. This restored GarageBand 10.2. Then I went into the Preferences for Apple's App Store utility and set it to stop automatically downloading software updates from Apple and to stop automatically installing them. Otherwise the App Store app is going to nag me every day telling me to click to install updates, and it's going to over-write GarageBand 10.2 with GarageBand 10.3.Any chance anyone knows where i can get a Garageband 10.2 installer. All my sessions are screwed up now.
Ah... the 1GB+ app that I've removed a long time ago. I quite enjoy not having to update it to![]()
what was updated is GB for Mac and the update weighs around 15 GB
This really is one great application and I wish I'd have more time for making music
the iOS app seems to be a somewhat stripped down version of the Mac equivalent
If we could also open the computer GarageBand files on iOS GarageBand, with full compatibility, that would be an absolute killer app.
[doublepost=1529960383][/doublepost]Hey Wheat. I have the same problem. All of my 3rd party plug-ins are unusable. GB is not recognizing Kontakt, or Spitfire. The q is, is Apple aware of the AU plug-in issue & if so, when will they fix it. Thanks.GarageBand 10.3 is unusable. It's introduced a serious bug.

I called Apple support about this, last night. No help. They basically had me check if the Apple plugins worked, which they did, so then told me that it was an issue with the third party plugins and that I'd need to contact each vendor individually for an update. Aside from how unrealistic that would be for me to do, I find it hard to believe that it's up to the vendors to fix, as it’s *every* AU instrument I have, and they all exhibit the exact same behavior. I've been considering upgrading to Logic Pro, but if I'm going to have to make sure each and every plugin vendor updates their stuff every time Apple pushes an update, I don't see the point. All my projects are dead in the water until there is a fix, as I don't have a time machine backup to revert to 10.2.

I never realized this until today when I tried saving a MacOS project to iCloud and couldn't open it on my phone. Boo! What if I want to show my friends how bad I am at playing Tom Sawyer?
But at least a couple of old .band files I had lying around still opened and were updated to the new format. One with a guitar track and one with a non-MIDI keyboard. Luckily, I never had any 3rd party plugins. Reminds me of how utterly hopeless I was a few years ago... makes my bad playing seem good in comparison.
