I cant remember if GoW 1 was story oriented or not...

Regardless if they had different stories the style was still the same, but they managed to make leaps in bounds in terms of features and tech.

BTW nice nixing of 10-2 :D
Personally I don't see how GoW got where it is today. It's an incredibly dumbed down shooter with possibly the most cliched and obvious story in history that offers nothing new at all.
But then again films like xXx and such do well in the US box office so I kinda understand. But part of me wants to try GoW2 if they fix what was broke (or just flat out missing) from the first.

I agree, GoW was fun but not "OMG sequel is out must run to get it" good, I have it for PC, I had some quick fun with it and I forgot about it, the art style is horrible, the graphics are nice I guess (there are better looking games out there), the story is generic and the characters cliched and apathic and the combat is boring, simple and unnappealing, not to say the game is bad because it's not but a 94 on Metacritic is pushing it.

And then games like Order of Ecclesia go mostly unnoticed...

When I have kids, I'll make them play SMB and other classic NES/SNES games, I don't want them to be growing up on this kind of mediocre gaming world :D:);)

I never played it, so I'm a hypocrite by inputing my opinion. :) I honestly didn't think it would be any good on the PC, because of its console roots, so I avoided it, but I've heard otherwise.

From what I recall, it was the first promising 360 game in a pile of first year crap, so I think it will always have that special place in the hearts of those that had only gamed on NTSC/PAL TVs, so those that still swoon over the thought of 1368x768 on a 60" screen with BROWN as the main color of choice. 1080 even has massive pixels at that screen size.

Anyways, I like the commercials when it was released. I even bought Mad World from Donnie Darko soundtrack because of it.

....the graphics are nice I guess (there are better looking games out there)....

Let's hope so......the game IS 2 years old now

I personally hate shooters, but for some reason I loved this game. Maybe it's the massive amount of people and friends who bought it since it was one of the first big releases on the "next" generation of consoles.....which really got me going with console gaming online. Maybe it's because when playing online against others if you die, you sit out until the next round so it's important to strategize and stay alive for yourself and the team (unlike the random continuous spawning of Halo and CoD). Maybe it's because you can play the campaign online with someone else via Xbox Live.

Let's remember....this game is as old as the Wii and PS3.....so it's been out for awhile.

Your perception of OLD is different than mine. :)

GoW was released a year ago on the PC and 2 years ago on the 360, so by the time it was released on the PC, Crysis was coming out.

Even when GoW was new the art style was so bland that I don't understand how anyone could drool over the graphics, they were just ok technically and horrible artistically (which is what matters).

Gears of War is the new Halo, massively overrated junk , to put it bluntly.

This is the console games area of the forum so I assumed we were talking about GoW for consoles :D

It looked BROWN to me, with frosting everywhere, but I haven't seen it beyond demos and screenshots. I read that the PC used 2k textures, where as the 360 used 512x512 textures, so it must have been grainy on the 360?

I figured it was the new Halo, MS needed something to cling on to with Bungie doing its own thing again. :) It doesn't help that douche bag Cliff has been so vocally arrogant about it.

Opinions are like a**holes everyone has them :D

And just like a**holes, some people enjoy playing with it (gow) and some don't.

Just remember peeps.. don't be afraid to try... ;)

OMG did I just turn a GOW2 thread into something else ? well bugger me!! or not!! depending on your viewpoint...

Either way. The game is going to sell ridiculous amounts and even though I never finished the first and wasn't wowed by the repetitive gameplay, I'll probably end up getting it regardless (much like I did with Halo 3).

It still looks pretty in a ugly way... much like an a*****e :D

My bad, I was assuming that you read that Chone played it on a PC. :)

No worries :) Not sure I realized he was talking about the PC version. Oh well

I'll probably pick it up tomorrow so I'll post my opinion of the game over the weekend some time. If any of you pick it up and want to get in some matches my gamertag is: Phaedon

I've got mine :D

Now, if only I wasn't stuck at work...

mmm nice case.... mines ready to ship from play-asia, however they're still waiting for banjo to come in stock yet... oh well plenty of games to play still regardless. :D

This is my first time playing Gears of War. The game itself is alright, multiplayer matchmaking blows! You spend a few minutes trying to get a match and once the match is over they dump you back in the lobby to start the whole process again. Why not follow Call of Duty's successful formula?

Back to CoD for me.

Horde mode is amazing, so much fun to play with people, if anyone wants to play sometime feel free to add me, my gamertag is: duberto

This is my favorite part of the game. We had a good party, helping each other out, we got up to the 17th wave...then got dumped back into the lobby after the match was over. :(

Horde mode is great. Sniping and the torque bow feel pretty much the same (as does the lancer/chainsaw). The shotgun feels different though....maybe not as powerful.

I've played about an hour into the campaign and it's fun for what it is. The menus seem a little tedious. It was quick and simple to get a match going in the first game, but this menu seems more like CoD4.

So far so good. We'll be on tomorrow night (11 eastern or so). If you want to join up for some matches find me.

Hahaha...that was a good chuckle :p

I played multiplayer for a couple hours at my friends house. It was fun, especially hoard mode, but nothing special. The new maps, weapons, and creatures are all pretty cool, but it was nothing mind blowing. I'm not going to judge right away, as I LOVED the old GoW, so maybe I just didn't have enough time to get a feel for it...

As for the using the same engine controversy, that seems to be the theme for sequels this gaming season.

Gears of War 2
Call of Duty 5 (CoD 4 engine)
Saints Row 2

^Thirds....I'm still on the ropes about this game. I played it a bit but I don't see any real improvements except some visual enhancements and since I don't play online on live anymore I just don't know if its worth it.

Bless

okay horde is fun but seeing how the shotgun is ****ing terrrible and the online play is equivalent to a bag of **** this game is not a great as gears 1 it needs a patch right now

I just wish there was a GoW2 for PC just like part one was on PC. The graphic just blows away xbox 360.

Now I go back to my 8 player co-op on resistence 2 as I wait for my PC verson of Gears 2.
