BTW nice nixing of 10-2 :D
Personally I don't see how GoW got where it is today. It's an incredibly dumbed down shooter with possibly the most cliched and obvious story in history that offers nothing new at all.
But then again films like xXx and such do well in the US box office so I kinda understand. But part of me wants to try GoW2 if they fix what was broke (or just flat out missing) from the first.

Dumbed down and cliched? Maybe you could clarify. My understanding in multiplayer (which I have not done) is that some strategy is necessary to prevail, no?
Every game out there puts forth a reason your characters are out there shooting the place up. The story is definitely secondary to game play which for GoW satisfies lots of people. That is how it got where it is.

GoW has the most impressive cinematics of any game I've played, I love the cover system, and how the game brings significant events to your attention.. Granted I've not played every shooter out there, but after playing through the original GoW for a 3rd time, and then taking a peak at Area 51, there was just no comparison in graphics. The game has an edge that I like.

Someone said it would be "more of the same". Although I would like something new, the original was on the short side so maybe they can get away with "more of the same" for this sequel.

Is the verdict up or down for GoW2?

It's exactly what I said before - it's nothing new. The plot is recycled and has been done over and over which makes it uninteresting and gives me little reason to play on. Where even the original Halo had some plot to make the game deeper and give an actual gripping reason to learn why the player is on the planet etc, GoW doesn't do that which makes it all so (I feel like I'm repeating now :D) uninteresting.

Strategy is required for all games, and from what I played of GoW1 and 2 there is little strategy required. It's no Advance Wars, no Counter Strike, TF2 or L4D. It's just a barebones shooter with cutscenes and cheap story and dialogue.
