A while back I was having problems with my cable modem. My home router was also rather old and having a few issues, so I went to Best Buy to see if they had a modem/router combo I could pick up. The only modem/router combos they had were for DSL. So I asked a GeekSquad person walking by if they happened to have any Cable Modem ones tucked away somewhere. He replied that I would ABSOLUTELY be able to use the DSL modem/router combo with my cable connection, as a matter of fact he does just that at home with the same modem/router I was holding in my hand.

"Really?" I replied.
"Yep, I've got it running at home right now on my Time Warner connection".
"So where do you plug in the coax?" I asked...

haha that's great. what did he say after you said that?

He sputtered a bit and said that he was in fact probably running a cable modem version of the same router. I left the store and found out that the manufacturer of the router I was holding (I forget who they were) does not even make a cable version of their modem/router combo. I ended up ordering a Linksys one from Overstock.com.

As a side note, it turned out the problems I was having with my modem was not a problem with my modem at all. Time Warner had been getting hacked. I don't know what they were doing, but it was so bad it caused my modems (went through 2 of them trying to solve the problem) to lose signal several times a day. Finally I got fed up with it and switched to FiOS. FiOS rocks!

agreed fios is pretty amazing. my building got it about 3 weeks ago. you cant beat fiber optic!!

actually its not that bad working there because the discounts are awesome!! i could get a $250 Monster HDMI cable for $50. also our house brands like rocket fish i could get an HDMI cable for about $3. but part of the reason i left was their treatment of customers but mostly employees including me. i got HR to look into my old store and got a pretty good sum of money for time clock issues.

Yeah, those sound like really good discounts. I'd take them.

the only thing is you got to put up with a lot of bs from the managers. after i became one it got a little easier but morally it got worse. the store i worked at was so corrupted it was ridiculous. i finally ended up just walking out of the store after getting in an argument with the GM and never went back.
