Some people won’t care. I’m not one of them. I won’t even consider a car without CarPlay.
The peculiar thing is that they’re specifically choosing to not offer it in their EVs, but retaining it in their internal combustion vehicles.

The demographic for EV consumers is going to skew more heavily toward CarPlay being a dealbreaker over non-electric car buyers. The people who won’t care likely aren’t interested in an EV or will choose Tesla, Rivian, Polestar, or some other non-CarPlay EV over a GM vehicle. And the people who do care will opt for something from Ford (if looking to buy domestic), Kia, or some other automaker who isn’t being so stubborn over this.

It’s a lose-lose for GM to omit it from only their EVs.

Nope. GM is abandoning CarPlay on their non-EV cars, as well. That's the point. They are dropping CarPlay in favor of what they hope will be a more lucrative in-house solution. It's a huge money grab and a massive step backwards for the consumer, back to the days of $300/year map updates and a severely crippled "infotainment" offering.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about the whole thing. I won't buy a car that doesn't offer CarPlay, and haven't owned a GM vehicle in the past 35 years. No need to start now.

Let's see how long their CEO lasts when their stocks take a massive dump. Maybe not immediately but soon after all their new vehicles get released w/o CarPlay.
