...acted too soon
looks like i got sucked in. I'm really loving the new Genius feature in iTunes, so the first notification that it was going to be available on 1st gen classics was all i needed to make the decision i'd been agonising over: 120GB with genius or 160GB without but with more spare space. I dashed to the apple refurbished store and picked one up for $339AUS, exactly the same price as the new 120GBs. Imagine my horror when I read the update that its not going to happen. Now I have another agonising decision: offer my unopened 160GB for sale on ebay and buy a 120, or stick with the space the 160GB offers.
The Genius feature really is that important to me. I have a large collection of music, over 12 000 songs many of which i obtained from friends while at uni, and probably well over 50% i have never actually listened to. The genius feature is an awesome way to discover the good stuff in this music which I can then rate and listen to later. And i want the ability to do this on my iPod as well as iTunes, since my main reason for getting such a large iPod is so i can carry all my music and videos with me and listen to whatever when the mood hits.
Oh well, my only hope is that CNET doesn't actually say they're not going to release an update for genius on 1st gen classics, just that it won't be free. I'd happily pay upwards of $20 for such an update
