So, for months now I successfully had automations that would do certain things if both my wife and I were out of the house and upon our return. Turn off the lights if we're both gone; turn 'em back on when we get home -- that sort of thing.

With absolutely no changes at all to HomeKit, those two automations stopped working. I've tried rebooting both phones, rebooting the Apple TV (our hub), disabling and re-enabling the automations... Nothing works.

Based on what I saw poking around on the forum, I also tried changing Location from "Home" to our actual address. That move restricts the automations to only triggering on MY presence, not both of ours.

Again, previous to this happening, I'd made no changes to our HomeKit setup. It worked for months and then just...stopped.

Anyone have any wisdom on this?

I had this happen when I broke my iPhone X and got a replacement from the Apple Store - it still had the old iPhone that I no longer owned selected under iCloud settings -> share my location. Took me weeks to figure out why nothing was working. Probably a long shot but maybe it helps.

Double check that setting on both phones.

Ah, that's a great thing to consider, but it doesn't apply in my case. (Same phone for almost a year now.)

I did try something else, though, that seems to have worked:

On Apple TV, disconnect from HomeKit.
    Restart Apple TV.
    Connect to HomeKit.
    Restart Apple TV again.

As I say: That seems to have it working again.

Yeah that was my second idea, sometimes the HomeKit hubs can get “out of sync” and need to be rebooted or reset.

There should be a "reset this hub" option right there on Apple TV that will disconnect and reconnect for you.

I wish I could remove hubs as well, for some reason relying on the wireless ones over the two wired Apple TV’s bothers me. You can’t remove HomePods at all and I have 6 of them.

Same here, the fix was indeed via iCloud settings, turn on location. But you must set it to the right device. I was figured out that my old iPhone was sharing the location, Put it to "this device". was the fix for me.

I have upgraded to IOS12 and geofencing does not work any longer.
What can I try? I have an automation that opens my gate when I am approaching home and it does not work any longer.

iCloud Setting->Share my position (from this device) is on.

    What could I try?
    Thanks for helping,
    dan

Reboot literally everything, then do it again just to be sure. I might be having the same problem but it's hard to confirm.

    Hello,
thanks for the advice. I tried and it has worked twice and then back to random working. I have also noticed that sometimes when modifying the automation, it looks like locked and I can not modify it.

Is there another application able to trigger HomeKit commands when entering a geographic area?

    Thanks for helping,
    dan

Don't believe so - you can do some GPS stuff with Shortcuts but I believe they all have to be manually triggered.
