Ugh... Reading the reasons why he's gone is pretty upsetting. I totally get it though.

He made references to the fact that he was doing it because it was fun diving into the technical aspects of it and the process was fun. Now it's just people that are unhappy with whatever he does and demand stuff.

Sounds like his hobby was turned into a job and he got fed up. I get it.

The part that sucks for me is that the technical parts were my favorite parts!!! Like his post on how he go hypervisor access to the PS3.

Oh well. There are other hackers to learn from I'm sure he'll keep hacking, probably just not releasing things or moving on to new devices.

With the amazing sense of entitlement so many of the more vocal commenters on JBing, I'm surprised he went on doing what he does this long. Oh, and the psychoanalyzing. It's just pathetic. I'm sure he'll be much happier without the mess that is /us/ collectively pestering him.

If he got any donations over the last week, if he's any sort of a man, he needs to return that money somehow or... give it to a charity.

Honestly, he's just a kid and I wish him the best... hope he learned something from all this about human nature and how when you're a dick and burn bridges, it only comes back around - Nonetheless, people can change. Honestly, as a freshman in college, if I had jailbroken the first iPhone, I'd be just as bad...

NONETHELESS... the money this is what pisses me off. Give it back!

ps
I use nonetheless too much...

Thats what i was thinking. If people saw he had "jailbroken" the iPhone 4, maybe they donated before it came out. Then he bailed...

Hey Guys I just got back from a from the South pole no communication!!

(So Did I miss anything?) :p

just a tip most news older then 5 minutes is old news on MR! even that's pushing it!

Come on, dude. It's winter at the south pole. No flights will be in or out of there till September or October.

(I know you were probably kidding, but still. :p

Just so people will know the CORRECT info. Geohot has not completely closed his blog, it's just closed to the public. You now have to be invited to access it.

I'm not sure why everyone is that shocked. Yes geohot was a very important part to the iphone hacking community, and now hes decided to withdraw its not like everythings over.

As for his decision, I can understand the constant demand of retards asking for a jailbreak, but I'm not sure why this "got" to him or if he is just being overly dramatic. In my experience, it's not hard to ignore people who you've never seen in your life, especially after he said, don't ask about it.

GeoHot was (is) a great asset to the iPhone jailbreaking community - the ingrates that we are. If you read any of this - thank you very much for the work you've done and the tools you've given us. You deserve a rest from all this.

hahaha thats ****ing hilarious!!!! :D:D

To everyone hating on geohot... What hacks have you done recently? What have you done for the jailbreak community aside from posting on forums?

Considering all geohot did for the community, only to receive all this critisism even now, I'm not surprised he left. I would have too in his position. You lot deserve precisely squat from him. He owes you nothing, and has absolutely no obligation to release his work to you.

When you're celebrity status, criticism is just part of the game. He didn't know how to handle himself and he took it too personal. Just learn how to keep cool and ignore the criticism.

So you're saying you can insult someone who spends hours upon hours reverse engineering Apple's security systems just so people can have the next jailbreak, because it's "part of the game"? That's pathetic.

He does have a point. Why don't you haters make a new jailbreak for all of us?

Exactly. If you lot think you're so great, and therefore qualified to hate on the first guy to ever unlock the iPhone, then why don't you use your clearly superior hacking skills to give us a better jailbreak?

I never said that. The Internet has millions of users so there's always going to be "jerks". Actors and actresses go through way more criticism but know how to keep their cool. What about the chef on food network channel who spends hours creating a recipe only to get it criticized on their blogs. You get the gist. People always have something to complain about. Just part of life.

A fair point, but if within mere minutes of announcing an exploit, you're flooded by comments either insulting you or saying "OMG WHEN CAN I UNLOCK MY IPHONE?!?!??!", you are eventually going to get sick of it.

Now I've seen some of the comments he's got, I kinda sympathise with the guy.

Though I heard he got an internship at Google soon after doing his first unlock in 2007, so I'm sure he's got more important things to do at the moment. Like he said, the iPhone thing was only ever a hobby for him, but the jerks that began to overrun the jailbreak community made it stressful for him, they took the fun out of it.

I for one with him success in his future, and thank him for all his hard work.

By this 'logic' no one should ever criticize anyone, e.g., Steve Jobs, after all, it was his vision that resulted in the iPhone and looking at your posts, you've been hating on Stevie. If your skills are so great, develop a better antenna.

First of all, those two things aren't really comparable. To create an antenna you need a lab, production facilities, testing facilities, funding, etc, whereas anyone with a computer and an iPhone can learn to hack it. I'm learning ARM assembly in another tab at the moment, for example.

Second, the other aspect to the antenna issue is buying a product which isn't fit for purpose. If you hack an iPhone, then not only do you do so at your own risk, but you haven't paid for a product that could break. Whereas, if you pay obscene amounts of money for an iPhone 4, only to have it not work, the critism is deserved.

Third, geohot dosen't deserve your critism. He did nothing wrong. As I said before, he has no obligation to release his jailbreak freely to anyone. Whereas Steve is selling us phones which don't work, and therefore deserves the bad critism.

Get the difference?
