criticism is part of life, there is positive and negative criticism, and we rely highly on it. I dont think it was a question of criticism, I think he was just fed up of the script kiddies consta-demanding for the jailbreak (OMG PLZ KTNX CAN I HAZ JAILBREAK NOW MISTER IPHONE HAKZORS"

Criticism gets **** done, if no one complains about your fat ass you wont get your ass into shape, if no one complains about the recent ip4 antenna issue, your damn right it wont get resolved, im talking petitions and the whole shebang (even though its highly likely apple will downplay the issue and fall back on the "YOUR HOLDING IT WRONG NOOB, APPLE < YOU" excuse.

Integrity is what is needed to handle criticism, and to keep going. I remember when i admired geohot, when iphone dev came short of a 3g JB he released his tools, he had also taken a crack and iphone devs, saying something along the lines of: thats not how it works, apple fixes, we crack, there is no point trying to conserve exploits for future releases, the thrill is to find them once they are patched.

What happened to that school of thought? Maybe geohot needs a time out after all. If he's any true hardcore exploiter, he will be back in the game eventually.

First of all, those two things aren't really comparable. To create an antenna you need a lab, production facilities, testing facilities, funding, etc, whereas anyone with a computer and an iPhone can learn to hack it. I'm learning ARM assembly in another tab at the moment, for example.

Second, the other aspect to the antenna issue is buying a product which isn't fit for purpose. If you hack an iPhone, then not only do you do so at your own risk, but you haven't paid for a product that could break. Whereas, if you pay obscene amounts of money for an iPhone 4, only to have it not work, the critism is deserved.

Third, geohot dosen't deserve your critism. He did nothing wrong. As I said before, he has no obligation to release his jailbreak freely to anyone. Whereas Steve is selling us phones which don't work, and therefore deserves the bad critism.

Get the difference?
No one is saying that geohot is obligated to do anything for anyone because he isnt. but anyone with half a brain knows that the internet is full of "retards" and "jerks" and i'm pretty sure geohot knows that too and he took it way to seriously. The dev-team gets bombarded with these questions, you dont see them complaining about it.

Oh gosh, here we go :)

My bottom line with geohot is that I wish him all the best, hope he finds what he likes doing in college, thank him for what he did that none of us could do, owe him quite a bit concerning using my iPhone overseas - I really feel that way. He's a genius that this community owes quite a bit... but people are allowed to criticize him for being dramatic, childish, rude, and pretentious. Genius, gratitude, well wishes being criticized and are generally mutually exclusive.

Are we allowed to admire what he has done but criticize him for being a drama queen? Furthermore, people are allowed to be critical even if they can't perform the tasks they are criticizing... apply the same logic to another example and you can see - Im critical of a lot of things: Apples iPhone 4 design flaws, The Chicago Cubs, Politicians - can I do what they do - certainly not :)

Oh well, just my thoughts.

Oh, Cubs fan as well??

The disappointment I felt at my iPhone 4's antenna nowhere near compared to the pain and disappointment the Cubs cause me every year. lol

What picture is he talking about? At the end of the blog post it says that the picture is obviously fake.
