Geohot: woah, iPhone 4G...be happy to activate it for you and dump the NAND
    (Via twitter)

    That would be awsome.

Sure would. Then we just might have a jailbroken and unlocked 4G on release day!

If the same 4.0 loops and bugs are still there. But that is a given matter, since Apple is messing in deep with the OS, there are bound to be new bugs to exploit:)

Also, we need a hardcore hardware hack like back in 1st Gen days. That is terribly missed.:(

They should have him activate it and when the hype dies down release a video of the activated phone to bring the hype back.

Wouldn't the higher resolution screen mean that it would need it's own versioinnof the iPhone OS? Without it, I don't see how activating it is even possible.

I just emailed Jason Chen from Gizmodo about it, hopefully he considers it :)

Each iPhone, whether final or prototype model, needs it's own OS. That's why we have iPhone3,1_4.0, iPhone2,1_4.0, iPhone1,2_4.0....

If geohot does successfully activate the iphone 4g.... I wonder if people will still think its fake. And if it still turns out to be fake, where do I buy one =D cause apparently somebody could manufacture a really awesome fake phone.

Geohot is talking about dumping the NAND, which, assuming he could find the encryption key, would give him the firmware.

ETA: Guess who's been working on a way to break SHA-1 encryption? One guess...

J: You work at Apple, right?

G: Um, I mean I can't really talk too much right now.

---> J: I understand. We have a device, and we think that maybe you misplaced it at a bar, and we would like to give it back. <---

G: Yeah, I forwarded your email [asking him if it was his iPhone], someone should be contacting you.

Thanks a lot, that really clears it up for me. If he can actually pull it off, that would be great. But it would lead to the least interesting iPhone showing of all time this summer, if he does.

Just because they say we'd like to give it back doesn't mean they DID however
