people do carry stronger batteries in their luggage (electric tooth Brush?).
Don’t understand why it takes so long to admit, that it’s not harmful: no electronic devices on flight, take off and landing - that took ages to loosen those regulations, sigh
It’s not the strength that the regs focus on.
It is the type (lithium vs other types)

Yeah, I don't really see much benefit either.

Bags are almost never "lost" anymore...

Sometimes they end up in other places/flights, but they are getting scanned continuously and the airlines basically always know where they are and get them where they need to be, even if delayed.
Well, i think here and there the stickers can go off and the bag becomes unclassified a.k.a. lost.
That’s why i always put a printed paper sheet with my name, phone and address on top of my stuff inside the bag.

Even if they try to ban them again, we're gonna keep using them. Seems crazy they thought a tiny battery would be a security issue

What do most do, inside luggage or out?
Most people will put it inside their luggage. Marketing & promo shots will always show it attached to the outside of bags & luggage, but that's for advertising purposes...in real world usage, most will drop it inside, put it in one of the bag pockets, etc.

Limits the risk of loss (or damage if it bangs, snags or hits against something) and possible removal from another person.

Having AirTags in bags is the only way to travel. I have them in every bag and can tell before we even take off if my bag has made the flight. Also makes waiting for bags a breeze.

I would have immediately stopped using this airline. Or ignored them over this.
Holy ****! I never thought about knowing when your bag is coming! Game changer.

Anybody that tried it (putting airtags on checked luggages), how did you guys do it? Did you just drop the airtags inside the luggage, or use one of those accessories to attach it externally? And how good does it work?
Accesorios are redundant. Just put an AirTag somewhere inside your luggage or under inside lining if you got access. It may be required to attach outside if you got an aluminum luggage what may stop Bluetooth working properly

Yikes. Sounds like Lufthansa has a lost baggage problem and was trying to take the easy way out.

I laughed out loud reading “after receiving guidance.” Nice euphemism. Like they didn’t already know this.

The “guidance” was probably along the lines of “Ha nice try, but no. You can’t call CR2032 batteries a hazard. And the ‘interference’ argument was disproven long ago.”

I rarely check a bag, my wife does every time (mostly shoes)

She has had these on from Day 1 of AirTags and has never lost one or had it fall off (25 or so flights)

Glad this has come to a sensible conclusion! After all, if they started banning active Air Tags in checked baggage, they will also have to ensure that battery-operated clocks and watches are also disabled. That would be absurd!

From Lufthansa to Luftoopsa! ;-)

Probably somebody in the lost baggage office went insane to the sound of hundreds of AirTags peeping.
That’s what I’m wondering. And even if not lost, just after people check their bags, aren’t all the AirTags going to start making sounds until they’re reunited with the owners? And maybe a bunch of people will be getting notified that they’re being tracked if it’s too far from the owner?

The previous ban was BS.

Anyway, i see no benefit tracking a bag on a flight, if it’s lost it’s lost, they won’t allow you to enter any secured places, where you think it might be. Nor would i call to a foreign country, trying to get someone there on the phone to go hunt my bag across the airport. If it’s not on your flight, all you can do is look dumb on FindMy and cry.

Filing a support ticket and be patient is all you can do anyway to get your bag back.

Yeah, I don't really see much benefit either.

Bags still get actually lost lost. Even if most or all airlines have scanning systems, as long as humans are involved, things slip through the cracks. So it’s still always going to be beneficial to know where your bag is, since that’s the first step to getting it back.

Has signal interference caused any plane crashes in the last 20 years? When they ask people to switch to airplane mode, there are almost certainly people that just ignore the request, and the jets still seem to survive.

I just put them inside, and attached them to a zipper tag or similar.. I had been using Tile for years before Airtags.. the tile was good for BT as their BT is much stronger, Apple is not very good at all for plain BT tracking, but this is overshadowed by their Find my network.. Haven't traveled without tracking bags for years.. I also have one in my Passport, headphones, airpods.. I travel internationally every few weeks to a month, and also domestically between this..
