Wow, all these "Next" plan folks are turning in iPhone 6 for the 6s. I wonder what that will do to the used iPhone market if there is actually increased churn?

I'm upgrading myself. I've just decided that my phone is used too often per day for it to be a place where it is rational to compromise. Yes, it will cost be $800 or so buy another a 64gb version. And yes my 6 is perfectly fine. But I can hand down the 6 to a family member who will like it, and I can then enjoy the superior 6s for the coming year. It is somewhat of a luxurious decision. But easily justified when I think of the hour or more I use my phone every day.

This is my thinking too. I use my phone a good chunk of the day, phone calls, emails, texts, games, reading, books etc etc. It is easily my most used device, this is why I tend to upgrade yearly.

As of now, it doesn't seem to be having a negative effect on Gazelle or Nextworth - they are still offering $325 (365 unlocked) for an iPhone6 16G - we will need to revisit this after the S models are shipping.

I will be ordering three 64GB 6S models and one 128GB 6S Plus on day one. Full upgrades for everyone in the family now that we all are on a Next plan. These plans will ensure huge launch numbers for Apple for years to come.

Nonsense - I've been saying that for awhile and someone in the forum call me an idiot.

In my household, we will be upgrading 7 phones on day 1 - no reason to wait.

Good luck getting that many. If you've done an iPhone preorder in the past you know you're likely going to be in the 4-6 week group if you try to get that many.

Its that time of the year again !! so excited !

Consumer Society at its best. While I don't judge you for that, I still can't beat the feeling, - there are much much greater things to be so excited about, and those usually are a lot less materialistic...

But each to his own, they say.

How long did it take for the iPhone 6 to become available in stores as unlocked phone? Also do we expect shortages because of the new pressure sensitive screens?

It was available right at launch (at least here in Canada it was)

You can buy any phone at full price from the Apple Store and it will be considered and unlocked phone. The Officially Unlocked versions of iPhones usually come out around November.

There are always rumors of shortages every year, and they almost never are true, so take any rumor of shortages with a grain of salt.

Wonder when the first few idiots (oh, sorry, die-hard fans) will start camping outside Apple stores.

Last year, the two guys who always camp out at the Fifth Avenue store were in line for 20 days to break the previous record. I bet this year they will be out there for a full 3 weeks before launch.

So on preorder day, I can preorder the iPhone unlocked and sim free if I am choosing pay full retail price? Is that correct? I did not understand what you meant when the iPhone will be available for purchasing outright in stores in November. Thanks.

On pre-order day, the only phone available for pre-order at full price is the T-Mobile model.

If you get it from the store on launch day, you can buy any model outright, which will be considered unlocked. They will come with a SIM, but you can just remove it and use your own SIM instead and it won't be locked to a carrier.

The official SIM-free unlocked model is released in November. This is the same as the T-Mobile model, it just doesn't come with a SIM. You can read more about it here:

Typical crappy writing from MacRumors. Seriously, hire some writers with actual journalistic backgrounds, or at least common sense. There is no mention in this article whatsoever of which 2 of the 3 carriers are prepping for the new iPhone.

I can't wait for a better Apple-centric website to pop up with decent writers so I won't be inclined to endure garbage writing like this anymore.
