Always kind of bothered me that the MBP only gets 14” and a truly unwieldy 16” sizes. The MBA 15” is the perfect size, but with an inferior screen. Going to have a dilemma next time I upgrade 🤔

I have both. The 14” screen is a joy, but the 15” screen is really great too. I’m nota graphics pro, but to my eyes the only difference is brightness and those HDR bright spots.

I’d still have the 14” over 15”, but it’s mainly because M2 is restricted to one external monitor and my home office setup has two external displays.

When folks ask me about the things I miss most from the US almost always at the top of my list is "great discounts you don't get aren't easily found in Europe" (especially odd in The Netherlands as they pride themselves on being frugal and getting great deals). Hopefully these sorts of deals will be available next time I head home (as well as timing a Vision Pro delivery in my visit window)

EDIT: Should have said easily found discounts in EU... hunted around and saw in Spain can get one about the same price (but that' s because I get sales tax refunded through business)... but need to order from some rando site and delivery is listed as mid-April... and frankly I don't really need a new MBA... waiting for them to have the same performance as my MBP M1 Max... which is an unlikely next next year, and maybe 2026.

When will the Macbook Air M3 be released?

Once Apple have cleared their stockpile of the MacBook Air M2.

Mid-March - they just launched Vision Pro this month. They like to space out product rollouts.

They shipped it this month, but they announced the pre-order date January 8th and orders started January 19th. My hunch is yes they are going to continue to space out the rollouts and that they are going to split the MBA and iPad releases. The MBA by press release sooner since it is just a spec bump, then an iPad event later in March or April.

I agree. Why is that almost every time a base model goes on sale, someone has to insert a hyperbolic post about how you can't doing anything but surf the web with this configuration?

Meanwhile, millions and millions of people use the base configuration everyday for college, work, and home, and they are delighted with their computers. Apple enjoys a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty, and this would not be possible if the base models were useless.

I have zero problems with my base M2 MBA. I don't need a huge amount of local storage because we have the 2 TB family iCloud plan that we share with 5 people. All devices are set to optimize local storage for photos and documents. Everything is backed up. Zero problems.

My kids went through undergrad and grad school with base configuration MBAs. Zero problems. College students write lots of papers and reports. They frequently do statistical analysis (R) and modeling with spreadsheets. Class presentations are common. They certainly did more than just surf the web with their computers.

It's the "no configuration lower than the one I want should ever be sold" syndrome. You see it a lot.
Sometimes it's also the "my use case is the only one that counts" syndrome.
