I always buy on the new releases of iPhone, not the in between 'S' versions. So needless to say, I am now following the 7 as it surfaces. I have the 6 and my mom has the 5. I haven't upgraded her due to health reasons and she really wasn't using it for about a year. She is starting to use it more, but due to bad eye sight, the 5 is simply too small anymore. The 6 isn't much bigger, or I'd give her mine, so I think I will be upgrading to the plus sizes. I am hesitant, but with all I do on my phone, it just makes sense to go with the +. I am a little nervous about the size, but like others have said, they won't go back to a smaller phone….But I digress

So my thinking is….should I get my mom the 6+ or 6S+ now (is it worth it), or wait for the 7+? She doesn't need anything fancy as far as features. It's mostly the size that will be the main reason for the change, not to mention the 5 is on it's way out. I saw light spots on the left side of the screen when I restarted it the other day.

And is the monthly payment option worth it? I want to hear from people who could pay outright if they wanted to or did you do the monthly payment and what was the benefit to either choice.

Thanks!

Does she do much on it? I mean really only big things between the 6 and 6s are the 3D Touch (which I turned off - find in useless for me)

Nope…not much at all. She really only needs it for looking up numbers, making a call, and at some point she will probably be texting again. I know she could use Siri, but she isn't good at using voice command, so it's more frustrating then useful for her.

I mean is it worth it to spend close to 700 bucks on a brand new iPhone when it comes out if it is being used for little tasks that the 6 or 6s+ can handle?

I'd be using an upgrade, so I wouldn't be paying full price. But no, it's probably not worth it. I guess not knowing what the 7 will look like and have in the way of features is keeping me from doing anything just yet. If there are features that can help someone with dexterity and sight issues, then it may be worth waiting :/

I took the plunge and grabbed the 6s+ yesterday (just posted a new topic on this actually). Not regretting it one bit.

But I actually forgot one point that I didn't put in it though. I wanted to on the "S" upgrade path, especially with all the rumours about the 7 being w/out a headphone port, etc. Much rather than the 7S than the 7; but thats my preference and choice. You may have a different choice though.

Yeah I understand that. Only thing I know of know is just enlarging the text in settings

Ok very cool! What did you upgrade from? The more I use my 6, the more I wish it was bigger. It's funny seeing these threads about how excited people are about new 4" that just came out….I thought for sure people would be going bigger as the phones do more and more, but I guess to each his own. I am a bit nervous about portability though. Being a girl, I do have a purse, but I don't carry it everywhere and my pockets are average. I think I'll need a lanyard or something… lol

Yes, I agree. That should help. I also hopes she starts using Siri, but we will have to work on that.

I went from the 6 to the 6S plus. Right now, getting 3D touch is worth the upgrade alone IMO. Keyboard is much better & easier to use, screen is soo much better. Signal strength is a tad better as well. I can go on & on though.

I went from the 6 to the 6s last week. No big difference. I had to sell my 6 because I dropped it in water, even though there was no water damage.

Ugh sorry to hear that….Isn't the 7 going to be more waterproof? It seems like such a common thing to drop your cell in water in some form or another. I've been lucky I guess. I just had one incident with my 5 where I accidentally placed it in a cup in my cars upholder that I thought was empty, but it had about a half inch of water…..a little rice bath overnight and she was good as new, but still annoying.

That's one of the many questions/rumors concerning the iPhone 7. Also, Since this will be a new feature, I much rather wait for the 7S (or longer) so they can refine & improve the technology for the 7S..especially dealing with a feature that complicated.

I think the water proof feature may be of greater importance with a larger, more cumbersome phone. I rarely drop my phone, but I TRY to be mindful of where I place it. I still find myself placing it on the shelf above the toilet or next to the kitchen sink if I'm in there for a while. What could possible happen?? o_O

Cell phones have gone from something you had for emergencies, to a device you'd just assume be late for work or whatever if you forgot it then be without it. Forgot your wallet with your money and license in it? WHO CARES! I need my phone more then either of those things….If I got pulled over, at least I can call someone for a ride when they impound my car…lol

Though it was completely submerged in a puddle of clear water with the screen on, it still worked perfectly. Just didn't want to deal with potential future issues. The only thing that would make me upgrade to the 7 would be a screen upgrade. It's about time.

Long time reader over 8 years here... I decided to go with an iPhone 6s+ yesterday due to the fact that I want to be on the "S" cycle and I am not too sure there will be significant upgrades or changes that would make me want to jump on the 7 (non-S) cycle.

I've always been on the non-S cycle with the exception of the 3GS….My mom doesn't care either way and wouldn't know the difference between a 6+, 6S+ or 7+. It's me who cares what she gets and I try to think about resale value as well.

Personally I'm waiting for the 7, I have the 6 Plus (I didnt upgrade to the 6S) and I could kick myself for not getting the 6S Plus, after using the 3D Touch and Live Photos on my best friends 6S I think it's worth the upgrade, but with only 5-6 months left until the unveiling of the iPhone 7 it's worth waiting.

Right now, you should definitely wait for iPhone 7. 6S Plus is a 6 months old phone.

iPhone 7 is expected to have a slightly twerked design with possible bump in screen resolution with slight possibility of AMOLED screen. The 7 is also expected to have usb 3 transfer speed over lightning port. With 7 you can also do a little twerking.

We're literally less than 170 days away from iPhone 7 launch. It makes sense to wait.

So the 7 looks to be just the dual camera upgrade which will help picture taking a lot. And thinner frame rather than better battery life. The pace of innovation at Apple is slowing and their priorities are weird.

Unless they somehow move up the OLED it's not worth waiting 6 for their next innovation.

Given how you described your moms expected usage patterns, the 6+ will be more than sufficient for the next couple of of years at least (until the 1GB RAM begins to limit OS/ app updates). However, given that Apple is still going to charge you an arm and a leg for that 6+, and with the iPhone 7 on the horizon, I would wait to get more bang for my buck.

I never looked at the days vs. months….it's more fun counting days I think :)
