That makes no sense at all, I've been seeing newer models come out with USB-C. Please provide some source material to back up your statement that all manufactorer's are throwing it out

Dell introduced their latest XPS with USB-C
Apple has their MBP of course
Razer has a model with USB-C
HP has their Spectre x360 with USB-C

That doesn't sound like all manufacturers are throwing it out (to use your words)

Yep manufacturers are flocking to it, not running away from it. Aside from the ability to use thunderbolt-3 as the communication protocol I think it has 2 great advantages. Its both a smaller connection which saves space which manufacturers love. As well you can insert it in either direction which users like move love. I no longer have to be fiddling to figure out which end is up 🙂

One nice benefit of USB-C is the ability to use the thunderbolt 3 protocol. Since manufacturers can have one port for USB and thunderbolt we are starting to see more devices supporting thunderbolt. I think this will help bring down the cost of thunderbolt based drives. Right now thunderbolt based drives are considerable more expensive than a USB-3 drive.

Games and Macs simply don't mix, whether we're talking about games being available in OS X, or the hardware to fully take advantage of games. I love my iMac but the OS and the hardware is not geared to gaming enthusiests

I have a 2008 Mac Pro which UPS delivered the day before the 2009 Mac Pro was announced. I waited as long as I could but my old PC stopped being able to edit the video work I needed to do so place my ordered.
Its been upgraded several times and have pro-longed its life longer than expected, partly due to always waiting for Apple to bring out a new Mac Pro - since Dec 2013!!!

I wanted the new Mac Pro but for my needs a 27" iMac with upgraded SSD and Graphics card will work just fine. Its whether I should hold off until the next iMac is released possibly in October and then I will be joining a long list of other customers buying one, or I get one now that has been out for 18 months already but won't have USBC / Thunderbolt 3 on it. Not that I need that now, but would be great to have in the future.
 
I'd like a new iMac, my 6 year old one needs replacing but I'm worried about how "locked out" we're going to be with them. I love that I was able to upgrade the optical drive, memory, hard drive, install an SSD, upgrade the wireless module... it was all so easy. If the next ones are rubbish then I'm going to build a desktop PC - like others here have said they'd do - and stick with a MBP for portable use.
