I'm taking a grad level iOS development course and while a VM on my 6th gen i7 laptop with 16gb isn't so bad I figured I'd take a plunge and buy my first Mac computer. Last night I had placed an order for the pro 13 with the 2.9ghz and 16gb of ram. My friend told me I should cancel my order and wait because probably in early Oct the new model will be released. By then and by the time it ships it will probably already be half way through the semester. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should keep my current order or if I should wait a few weeks and see if the new one is released but since that's a rumor I'm afraid I'll wait and it wont be announced or released and I'll end up having to buy the older model anyway. decisions decisions.

The rumors of the new MacBook Pro have had these "for sure dates". Fall 2015, March 2016, May 2016, and Oct 2016.

You decide what to believe.

Also, if you are doing IOS development, consider the 15 inch over the 13 inch. With Xcode, there are a lot of little windows that use a lot of screen real estate. If found the 13 inch too constraining.

If you need a computer now, you should get one now. Hopefully the 13" rMBP you purchased had some discounts. It's a good computer, but at this point in its life I wouldn't pay full price for one.

MACBOOK PRO WILL COME IN OCTOBER. ALL RUMORS POINT TO IT. Ming Kuo has been right about everything for the iPhone 7, so MACBOOK PRO WILL BE RIGHT.

Old saying, often-repeated:

If you absolutely, positively need it NOW, then BUY IT NOW. (looks like you already did).

If you can get by for now, and hang on with what you've got, you'd probably do better to wait.

I'd cancel the order and hang on another month or so.

If you get a new one now, you may be VERY DISAPPOINTED by the end of October.

Your choice.
No one here can make it for you.

If you feel working on the Mac will make you more productive and have a better semester, then go for it. You are buying for a professional/academic reason. Waiting for an LED function strip, marginal CPU update, or USB-C is not worth it, again, if you feel your work will be better using the Mac.

With that said, you do seem to have a capable computer. Maybe let the semester go a little longer, see how it goes for 2 weeks, and then decide.

The difference is that Gurman is saying it too. It'll happen.

Idc if jesus said it..... It's a rumor and that's all it is.

I've been saying there won't be a refresh this year and so far I am correct. If there will be one Apple will do it in 2017

Cool? I still don't care who he is. Can still be wrong.

Why don't you care who he is? He has sources inside Apple and has a job at Bloomberg now because of it and his track record. He nailed the iPhone 7 stuff. There is good reason to believe him.

And it's not just him; we have the case leak and Touch Bar stuff inside Sierra as well. Ming Chi Kuo also has a fairly reliable record and is predicting the same.

If you choose not to believe it the evidence is against you.

A much safer bet to make is that we will see a 13" next month but no 15", due to the intel situation.

Cool should I care? Cause I don't. Book it no Macbook refresh in 2016. Only because it's a waste to go with skylake when kaby lake will be out late 2016 or early 2017 that Macbook's use.

That is partially correct. The dual cores Kaby Lake parts are shipping now. So the 13" rMBP could be updated this year. The Kaby Lake high performance quad core processors typically used by 15" will not ship until 2017.

Still Apple could do something dumb like update the units with Skylake. But why get that?

Book it.....no update for 2016 period. They would of done it at the September event.... No need to make yet another conference to release a product that they themselves have tried to kill off in the past and obviously are waiting for it to do so. Sales are down across the board no matter the OS. People been saying they will update it all year and so far have been wrong..... I been saying the total opposite and have been right so far... Can I be wrong sure but I don't see that happening when I predict a 2017 release for both the 15 and 13.

You sound like someone who recently bought a mbp and is worried that a better one will come out soon

Nope bought mine in January and would do it all over again. I'm just telling you that we won't be seeing any new ones in 2016.

Enjoy your 2015 mbp that you bought in 2016 lol...

Skylake mbp is coming out in October

I am enjoying my 2015 Macbook Pro. I don't wait for products that "might" come out in say June but than is never announced. A skylake Macbook Pro would be stupid at this point and kaby lake would be better. Kaby lake performance wise in real life usage won't be that much better to be waiting months of hey maybe they will release it in x y or z. I also happen to need it for school and I am by far am no Apple fanboy. I prefer windows and if I could get a laptop that would last as long as the Macbook Pro I probably would of gotten it. That being said I love my Macbook Pro. As I said book it.... No new Macbook's in 2016.

Lol continue to live in denial, the new MacBook pros that come out this year will be way better than the one you have. Deal with it
