Is there anything worth watching? I was subscribed twice and I think I have seen the few good things they have. For my taste too many mediocre TV shows and not enough movies. Even with a discount not interested unless they offer much more content.

Apple TV is a great service. It’s the standar right now for original contener

I’m not sure about that. The only thing I hear my family and coworkers talking about is Stranger Things, currently.

It might be a “standard”, but it’s still way behind in subscriptions and viewership compared to the other streaming services.

The best thing about these seemingly regular discounts is that you can check in a year later and catch up on all of the captive content, then drop it again.
I had it for 2 months in July, so it's not worth it for me right now. If I hadn't been watching the Murderbot series I'd have stopped after the first month, probably.

We were subscribed about a couple months ago to watch Foundation, then cancelled. Tried this out and it said not eligible, even though I don’t have a currently active plan.

Ah well.

The things I've found entertaining and worth watching are:
Bad Monkey, Constellation, Dark Matter, Foundation, Friday Night Baseball, Government Cheese, Invasion, Loot, Murderbot, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Palm Royale, Pluribus, Severance, Shrinking, Silo, Slow Horses, Stick, and Ted Lasso.

They seem to do better with comedies and sci fi.

Slow Horses is the best show of its type in a long time.

Severance is good but overhyped.

Murderbot, The Studio, Bad Monkey, Physical, The Afterparty are all good lighter fare.

Pleribus is looking really really good so far.

And then there's everything else, which is almost all completely forgettable mediocrity unless you really are into what it specifically is (Foundation-type Sci-Fi, Morning Show talky workpalce drama, Shrinking-type safe and gentle networkesque dramedy)

It's shocking how bland the OG movies are considering the budget and some of the people involved. Even the one that won best picture is just an unimpressive little creation that falls out your head moments after viewing. Flower Moon and Macbeth are the only real stnadouts. Cha Cha Real Smooth was okay fun. Wolfwalkers was pretty good. But most of the big stuff like Wolfs, Napoleon, Fly me to the Moon, all the Tom Hanks stuff, Emancipation, Fountain of Youth, etc, has been very mid. Watchable on a lazy evening but not exactly exciting.

So anyway probably worth 6 bucks a month to check out the stuff that's dope, but not 12.99. Catalog too small, standout programming few and far between.

"...promotion for new and returning subscribers"

"Existing subscribers are not eligible for the discount.."

Confused.
Returning subscribers are people who subscribed in the past, but canceled and have been away for a while. For example, I subscribed in 2024, then canceled when I was done watching Ted Lasso. Someone like me would be considered a returning subscriber.

Or… Just don’t watch it if you don’t like it? So confused by this take. Apple has several of the top rated shows on television and has had a film win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, but they should just shut it down? Why? Because you don’t like it?
I’d rather them them concentrate on making OS updates and software without bugs, and fixing bugs. The only thing I’ve ever gotten out of Apple TV+ was Ted Lasso.

the best way to show you care about your customers is when you discount none customers and keep your current base paying full price! Marketing 101

Same here -- this is a good deal, we had it until Slow Horses was over recently and dropped it, I guess that still counts as a subscriber. Ah well. I guess we'll have banked a little more content to watch when there's a promo next time.

Just ahead of Black Friday, Apple is offering an Apple TV promotion for new and returning subscribers. Eligible customers can get six months of Apple TV for just $5.99 per month.

Apple-TV-Color.jpg

After the six-month period, the subscription price will increase to $12.99, which is the regular price for the Apple TV service.

At $5.99 per month, Apple is discounting Apple TV by over 50 percent. The deal will be available from November 21 to December 21 on the Apple TV website.

Existing subscribers are not eligible for the discount, nor are customers who have subscriptions billed through a third-party service.

This is not working 100% for returning subscribers, I had a trial that expired Oct 30 so this must have a cool off period

Try it over at Amazon's video store, then. I was trying to get a list of what other channels they had on sale and found an article that said you don't actually have to be a Prime member to buy channel access. If it works, it won't count against your native Apple subscription trial clock.

For all man kind is one of the best shows I’ve seen ever.

This isn't working for returning subscribers, at least in Spain.

My GF had a subscription that ended yesterday, and when either she or I tried to resubscribe today using the BF promotion (we are in the same "family group", but it's been very long since I was last subscribed), it said she/I had already used the free promotion, and that she/I could only resubscribe for 9,99€ (standard price).

Maybe it's an error, but if that's on purpose... BAD APPLE.
