Amazon and Best Buy are discounting Apple's 13-inch M2 MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD storage down to $699.00 in a few colors. This is a $300 discount on the previous generation M2 MacBook Air, and a new record low price for the computer.

Although this is a previous generation device, it will work great for anyone who doesn't need the performance gains introduced with the newer Apple silicon chips, especially at this discounted price. Apple just announced the new M4 MacBook Air, and anyone shopping for those models can get $50 off if you're a My Best Buy Plus/Total member.

There is a reason they are having trouble giving these away.

They didn't have to do this for the iPhone SE 2022. Those just disappeared with 0 price adjustment during their entire life. In fact, they dropped the charging brick midway which means the price actually went up!

That's how bad their new products are.

Also 13” M3 Air for $799 and 15” M3 Air for $999. Those are pretty good deals too. 13” stocks are probably over so need to keep checking in case anyone cancels their orders.

Probably just clearing out the shelves in anticipation of higher demand for new Macs and iPads. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

I got one a few weeks ago at the $699 price. I considered returning and getting the new M4 instead, but the M2 works just fine for me and I'm sure it will for the 3-4 more years I will likely keep it before upgrading. I do photo editing with Lightroom and it works great for that. There is nothing more demanding I'll use it for and I'm very pleased with how it's been working for me so far.

My point is they didn’t need to do that with the SE 2022.
I don't recall ever seeing phones sold at a discount to clear stock when a new one comes out, they just disappear unless Apple makes the decision to keep selling them at a lower starting price. Computer stock is always sold at a discount when a new version comes out.

Did you notice that they reduced the M4 Air prices by 100? Since latest brand new Air starts at 999, if they still sell 2 generations old Airs at 799, those will never get sold. Then next year, this stock is useless. They are taking some loss but better than sitting on the inventory forever.

$999 for 15-inch M3 MacBook Air 16/256 from Amazon is not a good deal when you can get the same thing for $929 from Apple Refurb.

I suspect a 13-inch M3 MacBook Air 16/256 (none in stock at the moment) will be less than Amazon's $799 price too.

For $100 more than Amazon's M3 MacBook Air 16/256 prices, I'd take a new M4 MacBook Air 16/256 from Apple Education store.

Oh yeah

Give me a 100 dollar grocery voucher and I’ll happily come and collect one for free

Free chips, free M4 chips

Bought a refurb for my partner from Apple yesterday for $709 haha. Oh well! Already shipped. The M2 Air is a ****ing killer machine.

Typically carriers knock $100 off the last year's Pro once the new one is out. Only time I've seen Apple actively clearance unsold phones was the first gen iPhone SE, they had a few waves of excess stock to purge through the old Clearance section of the Refurb Store.

Doesn't meet my personal needs BUT I find it hard not to recommend this to the average user. I would recommend this to my family and friends.
It’s not good enough for me but it will do for my friends, family and the pet dog/cat. Their workload isn’t as demanding as mine (rebooting, scrolling menus and browsing macrumors in safari).

😜😜😜

Every year Apple drops the price of the existing phones by $100 if they continue to sell them. They didn’t do that with the SE 2022.

Wow. Macs have never been this cheap for the customer. Or this profitable for Apple.
Switching to Apple Silicon was an epic win.
Cheap as chips, M series chips. Hot out the fryer, 25 times more crunchy.

Beware of the use by date

I’m waiting for the prices to drop so much that I’m paid to go and pick them up from the shop. They need to clear inventory and I’d bet at some point it would be more expensive for them to dispose of them or recycle.

I have a 7 year old Windows laptop that is showing it's age in a lot of ways, so I snagged this deal. I think it was pretty decent. Sure, I'd love an M4. But for 12 months interest free financing on my Amazon card, this fits in the budget nicely. If I am wrong, let me know so I can cancel the order before it ships. 🤣🤣🤣

It's wild how fast and how much the price of the silicon macs drop. They're still great computers and a great value for anyone that doesn't want/need the latest processor.

Unless you're doing some pretty intensive tasks, you're probably not gonna notice a difference. The jump from Intel to any M-series chip in daily use is staggering.

Enjoy your new Mac!

Need some 15" closeout deals

13" is too small for these aging eyes

I made this realisation the hard way, swapped my desktop for a laptop and went with a 14 inch 1600p screen. I’ve never had to enable scaling on a display before now.

Even M1 Macs are noticeably faster than the 4-5 year old Intel Macs. Saw a video where an M1 MBP went against the last model of intel MBP and the M1 was over twice as fast in some of the tests, they were doing things like rendering and exporting video projects etc. You’ll be very happy with whatever M Series Mac you get versus a 7 inch old intel machine.
