Every year Apple drops the price of the existing phones by $100 if they continue to sell them. They didn’t do that with the SE 2022.

No, they drop the price of the base iPhone (and Plus), and they quit selling the Pro models. Carriers and retailers will lower the price to clear out the Pro models, but you can't get them from Apple.

..and Apple didn't drop the price of the previous SE models when they were replaced. They just quit selling them.

I made this realisation the hard way, swapped my desktop for a laptop and went with a 14 inch 1600p screen. I’ve never had to enable scaling on a display before now.

Oof
Been there

Spent a week with a 14" M4 MBP before I realized ... nope... doesn't work for me anymore

This would be great for me. I am currently on an Intel MacBook Air that is stuck on Big Sur. It does everything I need but a few programs are no longer supported. I might have to grab one.

So they drop the price of the base/plus model each year but they have no need to do it for the SE even though it’s sold for multiple years. what does that tell you?

There is a reason they are having trouble giving these away.

They didn't have to do this for the iPhone SE 2022. Those just disappeared with 0 price adjustment during their entire life. In fact, they dropped the charging brick midway which means the price actually went up!

That's how bad their new products are.

Old iPhones are sold by prepaid carriers. Right now you can get an iPhone 13 from Cricket for $30. I'm assuming it's new old stock.

That they leave it to the carriers, pre-paid carriers and retailers to clear out the inventory and don't want to handle it themselves. You can still buy the SE 2022 from several places.

You know Apple sells the majority of their iPhones via carriers, right? Most common numbers I've seen is only 25% of all new iPhones are sold by Apple directly.

what? This is the perfect laptop for 99% of the population. They are dropping them because a new model just came out with a lower base price...

That's because the demand for them was so poor and they are now sitting on ton of inventory that needs to be unloaded.

Nothing perfect about the laptop. Ungainly design and a bad display that causes eye strain and headaches for many.

I disagree. The 8GB was a much bigger issue than 256GB of storage. Unless they're storing all their photos on their computer 256GB is fine for most users. I think it should be 512GB though since it's so cheap.
Yeah, my point is they CAN'T store their photos and videos on their computers because it's only 256Gb. That is exactly why they need it. If computers came standard with 1Tb drives like computers did TEN YEARS AGO, not as many would need to pay monthly to store their files in the cloud.

Anyone know of a discount code or where I can get best buy gift card at a discount to shave a bit more off this offer?

Very good prices. It should continue for sometime since the older models have now been discontinued. May find better deals on these models in the coming months.

jesus, did a M2 air kill your dog or something? why all the hate? and why on earth do you keep comparing the cheapest iphone made prices/sales vs MBA prices/sales? 2 totally different things made totally differently ways (and numbers) for for totally different uses?

Exactly how many are they sitting on? How many is a "ton"? do you have some inside knowledge?

Who are these "many"? The color red causes eye strain and headaches for many.

Best way to get a deal would be to

1) Apply for Amazon Prime Visa card
2) Get $100 Amazon Gift Card upon approval
3) Buy MacBook Air with Amazon Prime Visa Card and apply $100 Amazon Gift Card to purchase

* You also get 5% cash back on purchases from Amazon using Amazon Prime Visa card (Must also be a Prime member)
** Must have an Amazon Prime account to get $100 Amazon Gift Card offer. 1 month Amazon Prime trial works, otherwise you can pay for 1 month at $14.99

I had one for a month or so, before giving it to my daughter for college. Best laptop I ever used. Light, fast, battery just kept on going.

A local Walmart is now offering the M1 Air for $533. That’s quite a deal. Even that would serve my very modest computing needs.

With deals like these, the hundred-buck-cheaper M4 Air, and the little powerhouse Minis, this is a great time to be in the market for a consumer Mac.

Some deals that would never come to overseas areas. People there could still be fooled by the cheaper but unreasonable prices comparing to M4.

We all anticipated people would start whining about this as soon as the base Macs have 16GB of RAM. Whiners gonna whine.

699.- for a 16/256GB plus an iCloud subscription shared with your iPhone is a great computer for the money for any casual users who are not big on gaming or image/video editing.
