Did anyone else install the google app?

They have a voice search option, where you just say something and it searches it. It's extremely accurate. I've said everything from "evanesence" to "zucchini" to "hallelej" and it always searched the right word. It has never once failed to search the correct term.

I highly highly recommend installing the google app. It speeds up searches sooo much. And if nothing else, its great for showing off. Everyone I've shown it to were extremely impressed by how it was able to recognize the most obscure words and phrases they could think of.

Now I just really hope and pray that one of the free text messaging apps (textfree lite or textplus) uses the same massive word database to implement voice command text messages soon.

Also, I really wish that apple would partner with google to add the voice command, "Search ..." or "Navigate to.." to automatically launch the google app and do a search. It's just one less button press, but it would be cool none the less.

It's google, of course it's free!

Months ago? It says they just updated the Google App. But I just got the iPhone 3GS, my first iPhone, so I wouldn't know.

But I was under the impression that the iPhone 3G didn't do Voice Commands so I figured this was a new feature that came with the update.

The Voice Commands in the 3GS are a completely different animal what the google app uses. The Voice Commands refer to the newly included ipod controls, and the new vice dialing.

Oh, then why doesn't apple have even more voice commands like "Search..." or even "Navigate to..." (find's that place on Google Maps) or "Launch (App Name)"

Because Apple didn't write those recognition algorithms.

Is it that hard to press the "Maps" button to launch it?

The bigger question is, why is apple's voice regonition sooo much worse than the google apps.

Read the thread in the iphone forum about apple's commands.

Most people don't seem to be able to get it to recognize the song name they just said. Yet, the google app has no problem recognizing those exact same names.
