Thanks for making/posting the zip file thelatinist... The new bars were bugging me a lot.

Finally, after far too much delay, 4.0 Signal Bars v 1.0.2 is now live in the ModMyI repo with corrected dependencies! It should now be possible to install 4.0 Signal bars on iOS 4.0.1 and higher.

Again, I apologize for the delay in getting this package fixed. I really appreciate your patience!

Oh, and to those who have asked: I would love to make an "HD" version of this package for the iPhone 4, but it is not yet possible to extract files from an iPhone 4 firmware file, and I don't have an iPhone 4 to extract them from. If anyone with an iPhone 4 and a working knowledge of xcode wants to use UIKit Artwork Extractor to extract the images from shared.artwork, I'd much appreciate it.

nice, thanx!

Just a little bug to report. I've noticed that when you use certain apps (e.g. Cydia) the bars revert to the 4.0.1 default. When you return to the springboard it reverts back to the custom theme. Bug? Or an issue with Winterboard?

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's an issue either with Winterboard or with those apps, I think. I've reported it to saurik, but haven't heard back from him yet.

haha,
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks the 4.0.1 signal bars look fat and clunky.

I made a little theme theme for myself over at modmyi.com and just about to upload it to Cydia after a quick google search. But, I found this thread and see that you already beat me to it :)

Looking for iPhone 4 Testers!

I've worked up an HD version of my 4.0 Signal Bars theme, and need someone with an iPhone 4 on 4.0.1 to test it. I would appreciate if anyone could try it out for me and give feedback:

1. Make sure you have Winterboard installed.
2. Download and unzip 4.0 Signal Bars HD.theme.zip.
3. Copy the whole 4.0 Signal Bars HD.theme folder to /var/stash/Themes.XXXXXX.
4. Respring and enable 4.0 Signal Bars HD in Winterboard.

If this works, I will submit it to Cydia right away.

Please note: I am not sure whether Winterboard has been updated to theme @2x statusbar images yet. It is possible that this theme will do nothing at all.

Hey thelatinist, I've just updated to 4.0.1 and jailbroken with JailbreakMe. I've tried installing 4.0 Signal Bars, but it won't install because it gives a dependency error:

Code:
Depends iPhone Firmware <= 4.0

Yet, I am definitely running 4.0.1 (8A306) iPhone 3GS 32Gb.

Any ideas?

4.0.1 is not <= 4.0. He seems to have his requirement backwards.

Doesn't work. The cheat I use to change them is make the graphics the same size as for a 3G / 3G S without the @2x designator and just stick them in Theme/UIImages as you normally would. This will work for the status bar as well. Does this look as pretty? Depends on how good your eyes are.

By the way it's quicker just to go to /Library/Themes. It avoids that whole "what does .xxxxxx mean? I don't have this."

That's what I was afraid of. Oh well. For now it should be possible for people to use the version in Cydia; I'll wait and submit this when Winterboard has support for @2x images.

didnt want to make a new thread, but on my iphone 4 on ios4, i had the old 4.0 signal bars working just fine! doesnt work on my 4S with ios 5.0. any chance to get this to work again? :)

What wa your fix?

in ios4, they had two types of files: (replacing the 0 with 1-5)
"Black_0_Bars@2x.png"
"Silver_0_Bars@2x.png"

in ios5, they changed the filenames completely. there are now three types of files:
"ColorOnGrayShadow_0_Bars@2x.png"
"WhiteOnBlackEtch_0_Bars@2x.png"
"WhiteOnBlackShadow_0_Bars@2x.png"

since the packages you and another developer in cydia made a while back were tuned for ios4, i renamed them to the ios5 filenames and to my surprise, it worked! i ended up using the "Black_0_Bars@2x.png" for both the "whiteonblacketch" and "whiteonblackshadow", and it turned out just fine.

i can send you them if you'd like!

Nah, I've already figured it out and submitted 4.0 Signal Bars 2.0 to the ModMyI repository adding 5.0 and retina support. It should now support iOS 4.0.1-5.0.1 on all compatible devices. If anyone can't wait, they can download it from my site and install manually.

And, yes, because the older bars were never released in the new WhiteOnBlackShadow_ form (which seems to be used for Notification Center) I had to use the old Black_ ones for that. When I have more time I may try to compare the 5.0 images and figure out what the difference is, but it's subtle enough that I think it'll work for now.

Does any one have the new wifi, battery, status, clock and lock icons? Or does anyone know where I would be able to find the status bar icons in the iOS 5 file system.

New Update: version 2.2

Okay, here's a new version with new WhiteOnBlackShadow_ images for Notification Center. This has been submitted to the ModMyI repo as version 2.2. I modified the images from iOS 5 to match the heights of the 4.0 bars (which is not as easy as it sounds).

The new version should be just about perfect and contains all of the files in both regular and @2x versions and with both old and new naming conventions for maximum compatibility.
