My guess is the second generation of iPads won't be out until Apple sees what the competition is able to deliver. And that is not going to happen until late spring at the earliest. The iPad is a good buy now.

My guess is they announce some details on it in March or so right when the competition gets their product on the market. Then in June they release it to the public. That's quite a ways off. Meantime you can be enjoying your current version and they keep their value so well that you could sell it for not much less than what you originally paid and get the new one whenever it is released.

The design is going to be pretty set in stone months before hand.

They can't just change production line machinery that's going to be making millions of the NEW iPad's overnight.

The hardware will have to be planned a very long time before.

Ok, they can leave small items till later and the software will be done much later, but you can't manufacture in these mass numbers and change things at the last moment, once it's done it's done.

I love my ipad, bummer it doesn't play flash though, kinda annoying. The Logmein app is a must own. Battery life is great! No regrets here.

I just picked up my iPad last Saturday too and I am loving it! Even if they came out with the new one in March the resale wouldn't be too bad. I plan on upgrading. I would suggest a 3G model though. does your iPod limit you in any way not having access to the internet? "It's better to have and not need than need and not have"... Plus I think a 3G version would be more desirable when selling.

Seriously, nobody needs an iPad. It's a toy, not a tool like a notebook or a desktop computer.
I would say I need mine I use it for school and its the most effective tool I have. Why lug around my 15'' MBP unless I'm going to Design class!

Yeah, as last two posts have said, it is NOT a toy, very useful tool, I use it for work and personal in many ways I was struggling before trying to do it on my iPhone and I don't have to pull my MBP. Couldn't be any happier with the portability+capability combo.

Do you have one?

I've been pretty impressed. It does most of what you need a laptop to do, and if you go for the 3G then you even have better connectivity.

I'm using mine a lot. I've got a desktop and I'm planning to sell my old MacBook - I don't need it any more.

Buy it now

I'm putting my money where my mouth is. My 16 gig Wifi just got ripped off and I bought a new one 3 days later. I use the ipad so much, I didn't even think about it, even the $$$ hurt.

Technically speaking correct and I agree. An iPad was never designed to have the abilities of any notebook out there. It's a different market alltogether.

Well, after a lot of thinking, research and reading some of the comments, I decided to get it, and I'm so happy I did. This thing is awesome. It is so much more than just an oversized iPod Touch.

I also got the case and the 2 year warranty.

Thank u everyone for the help.

Thanks bud. The case is nice.

Pros

1. Great scratch protector.
2. Good impact protection.
3. Tilted slot- good for typing, but can make the thing feel springy at times

Cons

1. Gets disgusting really quickly. Any dirt or fingerprints show up instantly and are tricky to get off. This is due to the type of microsuede it is made out of.
2. Ridge around the edge is uncomfortable to hold.
3. WAY OVERPRICED. Forty dollars for a cheap cardboard/plastic case? It really should be like 20
4. The iPad simply feels better without a case. This case takes away that feeling.

Overall I like it. It's not perfect, but it will keep ur iPad protected.

I thought it would be a nice toy..
I never thought it would replace my laptop BUT a month later found it HAS.. I no longer consider it a toy, it IS my laptop.. iOS 4.2GM has reenforced this fact with print capability, multitasking, folder options and practically goes all day without needing to be charged...

My opinion to fel10.. Definitely NOT STUPID.. Buy it you'll love it..
