if you immediately upgrade or compare them side by side you may not really adjust well. initially.
Use like a 60hz iPad for a while, or turn your iPhone on low power mode and use that 24/7 between now and release because it is choppy as hell on a 120hz display and ALSO not at all representative of native 60hz 'smoothness' so it will in fact be an upgrade when you unbox your regular iPhone 16.
I love ProMotion, I guess, as a screen stickler, I really appreciate it on my iPad Pro and almost 2 years of use with 14 pro max but I traded my 14 PM , have been rocking a 13 mini, using a mini 6 a lot more than my iPad Pro recently, and am debating this internally myself whether I want pro or regular - if either since 13 mini slaps for what it is and being an ancient relic in tech world. It makes opening apps perceptibly seem smoother and such but I dont game or do video editing crap on my phone so it is just a luxury. That said $800+ is absurd for a 60hz display but the quality of the display itself is extremely nice and iPhone has many other perks than just the motion of the display, which we've all had to 'live' with from 2017-2021 or longer and really 2007 through 2021+ if you aren't considering OLED (with 2021 being intro of 13 pro, if you got that at launch I did not I skipped and went 12p to 14pm), or even still some people have never had a promotion phone since it is only 13P,14P,15P and now 16 pro which isn't out yet.
Promotion being one consideration of regular vs pro for me.. but not the only one. I value a lighter phone too a lot after a 240g 14PM with case+screen protector+magsafe pop socket attach and 16 is the lightest at 170g which is appreciably lighter than 199g which is 16 plus and 16 pro weight exactly oddly enough (different weight distribution though im sure and feeling). the 16 pro also physically looks boring as hell to me, even having skipped 15 pro but thats ok I guess. white/silver will add more flare from having 14pm in black and black past few phones.
as you surely know the 16 pro is also 6.3" and 16 regular is 6.1" this does make a difference I would assume to people who aren't really crazy about big screen phones anymore, even if physically they are very similar in size.

yeah size and weight, my favorite phone was the 13 Mini so I got the 15 PM last year and been regretting it ever since lol, can't wait to go to a smaller phone I can slide in my shirt pocket.
