Getting IPhone 4 or 4S from US to India

Friend can you please tell me in detail about unlocked IPhone 4s.

How can I use it India & what all things to be taken care ?

Can it be directly used in India ?

But more suggestions pls... if someone can still advice me cheaper one

Dude, the suggestions given here are quite clear.

You can not just buy a locked phone on contract without being an American citizen with a social security number and some credit. When all is said and done, you will have saved no money in trying to cheapskate your way out of this phone which is going to be outdated in about 5-6 months anyway.

And I thought my dad was cheap.

Buy a used one but make sure its factory unlocked and not locked to any carrier.

Don't waste your time and just buy it in India.
iPhones that require a contract will only work in the USA unless you buy a factory unlocked one.

You need to take your time to read and understand the advice people are giving you here

If there was a more inexpensive way to buy the iPhone using a loophole in the contract, I am sure apart from us guys here at MR, Apple would know it too

Even if you do take the hassle of buying an iPhone under contract and then paying the ETF (end up saving maybe 50 bucks in the process), it would still be locked to a network. So forget all future upgrades or be ready for the never ending waiting process for a new software unlock to be released.

Do yourself a favor and get the unlocked iPhone 4S in India. Or, you can search for a used one in the US or in India and save some cash.

Buy an unlocked phone on Craigslist it's cheaper than retail and no contract hassles.

get iphone with contract in usa or search on craiglist... buy it go to india in mumbai 5000 rupees unlock iphone any dealer....easy.......other way illigal is get someone u know in us to get contract with at and t....then tell him to take mobile insurance in 1 month of gettin new ipone. then tell him to ""loose"" his iphionea dn give to u.....u get iphone x2 in 400$ go to india pay 5k rupeer per fone get unlocked ....**** at and t anywyas they loote u....have fun bye

As has been stated more than once in this thread,

There is NO Unlock for the 4s. NONE.

if you take a locked iPhone 4S to India it will just be an expensive iPod Touch.

Jailbreak is not unlock. You will need a carrier unlocked phone or factory unlocked phone to work in India.

ohkkk so i was planning to buy an unlocked iphone 4s from USA from a friend of mine as i am saving like 10000 bucks .He says that i wont be getting the box or the bill. I know there is no use of getting bill but he says you will just be getting the accessories and the phone without the box so how would i know if the phone hasn't already been used ??
and also after i buy the unlocked iphone will i be able to directly use the sim card in India of airtel ,vodafone etc . ??
and if there is anything else that i need to look out for please let me know as i don't really know much about iphone that much .

Hi all,

I am planning to buy an Iphone 4 or 4S for myself but cost is always a consideration.

In India, Iphone 4 or 4s >= Rs 40,000
In US, IPhone 4 or 4s( with contract) = 200-300$ ( approx) = Rs 15000-20000
In US, IPhone 4 or 4S (without contract) = 700$ = Rs 35000

This means for anyone,the only way to get cheap Iphone is WITH CONTRACT FROM US.

But following are my questions.
1) Will I be able to use it in india ? ( Jailbreak etc.)
--- What about contract ?
---How can we break contract ? (In a clear manner)
2) How can it be brought to India ? ( Any Taxes/Customs duty if couriered)
3) What all things will need to be taken care before bringing it to India ?
( Use it before before bringing it to India)
4) Will i be able to upgrade its software in india ?
5) Will I get any warranty for it in India ?

I have already read many threads but I want a very streamlined Answers for my thread so that when i finish this thread, I end up purchasing an IPhone which can actually work.

Mr. Singh, even if you get an iPhone to India, please note that the warranty is not applicable there. Moreover, you cannot even do paid repair on the device from any authorised dealer, like 'Imagine Store'.

The best option is to pay full price for an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 or 4S, then when your relatives come they can bring it for you. If they ship it, duties will be very high.

Even if you did break a contract, you won't be able to unlock the iPhone and use it in India.

If you want to use an iPhone 4 or 4 S it will be cheapest to buy it in India, because even if you paid full price in US, duties would be high if they shipped it.
