So I'm a content creator and currently I'm looking for a new camera, most of the good budget cameras are out of stock cause of the chip shortage, so my last option is the iPhone 13 Pro since it has all the features I want and some more useful ones, and it will be way more compact to carry around a phone instead of a camera, but the iPhone 14 Pro is gonna have even more camera improvements then the current one and I'm ready to see what's gonna come with it but at the same time I'm constrained by a budget and many leaks are pointing to the iPhone 14 Pro getting way more expensive, and I'm currently at a situation where I can get the 256GB iPhone 13 Pro for around $999 so I was considering on buying it instead cause I'm good with what it will offer but I'm slightly worried about missing out
what's a good idea

If you need a camera now, get one now. If you can wait, wait.

I would get the iPhone 13 Pro now, baby it in a nice protective case, and resell it in a few months when the iPhone 14 comes out, at a minimum loss.

I'm not really looking into reselling whatever I get, and the time I waste into selling it also will add up so whatever I get will be with me for a long time

I would suggest waiting then (if you can). When the 14 launches you'll know what you're dealing with and you'll have the option to choose either the 13 or the 14. Typically, the previous flagship model tends to be heavily discounted after the launch of the newest flagship.

Right now you'll pay full price for the 13 unless you find a deal somewhere.

The next iPhone will always have a better camera than the previous one — for as long as iPhones are made.
There’s no way to beat the system. Whatever you buy will be old tech or soon to be old tech in a few months no matter when you buy it.
Get the 13 pro now. The waiting game is a loser.

Also, if you buy an iPhone now, it’ll have a pretty good, stable, less buggy version of iOS 15 on it than a launch day iPhone 14 which is guaranteed to have a buggy iOS 16 on it for several months.

Just wait until the 14pro comes out. Tim Cook it’s the greatest iPhone yet to date

I think after going past the 6 month point in the iPhones lifecycle it’s best just to wait for the next one.

I think your usage case neccessitates the Pro line and now is as good-a-time as any to buy one. You could always enter the iPhone Upgrade Programme that lets you upgrade after a minimum of 6 months by buying your iPhone on perpetual lease from Apple. You can get the 13 Pro now and then upgrade in November for free.

You can upgrade as soon as 6 months as long as you pay the equivalent of 12 monthly payments...

If rumors are true, the camera should be getting an enormous bump in MP. If you're a content creator and cameras are the most important and you're more or less getting a phone to serve as a replacement for a standalone camera - it will certainly be worth waiting for.

I'd wait as well. Watch the announcement when the 14 Pro comes out and if it's too expensive get the 13 Pro at a discount while they're still available.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP, considering to get a iphone 13 Pro in Silver or Graphite using my work discount of 6% to get it for £893. Main reason, and I cannot believe I am saying this, but I prefer the current notch to the proposed pill cut out on the 14 Pro's.

If you can, rather wait, the 14 Pro will be here before you know it and if you are not happy with its improvements you’d be able to get a 13 Pro cheaper at that point anyway versus buying it at full price now.

Yeah, get the phone bro! 13 Pro is the best camera phone and you can't wait for the 14 series till September end for your work!

I'm not clear that the OP's new camera also has to be a phone; for content creation $999 buys a pretty fine camera with a big glass lens. You can't beat a big glass lens with any amount of fancy electronics. But if a camera phone is needed then I say get now what you need now. Sure the iPhone 14 line will be alleged to have x% faster processor and y% better cameras, but there's no end to that game and the iPhone 15 will be z% better yet.

Seriously. Buy what you need now and enjoy it. Get off the garbage treadmill of always waiting for the next thing that will always be even more magical and amazing. Buy it, use it, get on with your life. Don't let practical objects control you beyond the time it takes to actually purchase them.

Good question!,
I'm in the same boat as you... Last iPhone was a Xs max. Ive had a zflip fold for a while and I'm rather bored.
I really don't think the 14 will blow us out of the water compared to the pro. If apple follows tradition, the next best will be slightly better then the pro series. Regardless I'm trading my zflip 3 in for a pro and will just use til next cycle of phones.

Just get it now and update if the 14 Pro is so astoundingly good you can't resist. The video recording capabilities of the current model are very good and either match or far exceed the capabilities of the devices most people on YouTube are probably using.

From a content creation perspective, I don't think many people are currently watching videos in 8K and I don't think that is likely to change in the future (I don't even think many people are currently watching in 4K, for that matter.) Further, the size of 8K recordings is probably still a nightmare to work with.

You're a content creator who needs a camera, so you're obviously already using one... What is your current camera for making content?
