Seriously, if I ever saw a ghost or a ghostly apparition I would spontaneously sh*t my pants and head for the nearest mental institution. If you guys really believe something supernatural is living in your house how the hell can you go back there every night?

Oddly enough I never found "strange" things that scary. I've seen strange orby lights (along with other family members at the same time), we've all heard bangings, doors slamming, little black things that dart along the wall and vanish into nothing and such. And I've never been scared to approach whatever it is (infact I did a few days ago, the banging stopped until I returned to my room ). Most of the time it's just annoying and shouting "shut up!" seems to work.

But one night I had a dream that I was locking up the frontdoor and I saw a hooded figure at the door. That scared me much more :D

So many of the 'true' ghost stories I've heard take place in situations where the person involved could have been in between being asleep and awake, a place for potential hallucinations and very strange sensations.

When I was young I clearly saw a large pirate ship sail across my bed room and hover in the corner before vanishing completely. Today I don't believe that it was some sort of ghost ship, but a hallucination due to the fact that I was laying in bed falling asleep in the dark. After staying up for an extremely long period of time I started nodding off and, immediately upon nodding off, my perspective would jump and I'd be sitting across the room watching myself nod off. Do I consider this a paranormal out-of-body experience? Not so much...I was in the in-between phase, dreaming and hallucinating.

I'm not calling people who claim to have witnessed ghost liars...I'm just suggesting that a good portion of those people may have simply been hoodwinked by their own senses.

Kind of an open sceptic here.

My dad died 10 years ago and every now and then, see a shadow out the corner of my eye that moves across the room, usually along the hallway. He also used to wear Old Spice aftershave, and get the occasional wiff of that. Like to think he's just checking up on me.

Other than that, just stuff that I could explain away.

When I was in college, I had my one-and-only "ghost" story.

My neighbors there had a number of wierd experiences - lights going on and off - faucets turning on and off (off to full blast), and dishes floating in the room.
I saw with my own eyes examples of all of the above, and to this day can't explain any of it.

It should be noted that that the residence was once occupied by a victim of Ted Bundy - whose body was never recovered. (this was at Evergreen College in Washington)

I am not a believer in the supernatural, per se...but as I said, I don't have an explanation - and the history, while perhaps coincidental, is thought-provoking.

Here's one to revive the thread (no pun intended):

At my old house, my grandpa died of cancer when I was three months old. One day, when I was 3, I was using my parents' restroom - which was directly across from their walk-in closet. The bathroom sliding door was open and the closet door was shut.

However, I started to yell "mommy! smoke!" - apparently I saw smoke. When my mom rushed over, she saw a dark cloud of what flowed like smoke, but when she opened the door, it disappeared. The really odd thing was that nothing was on fire. My sister also saw this exact same thing a few years later.

Also, sometimes our computer would say "You've Got Mail" randomly. I'd go over to check the emails, and the computer, monitor, AND speakers were completely shut off.

I very much do believe in spirits. I do not know if the following story was a coincidence or not but it gives me and my family goose bumps talking about it.

Here goes,

Back in the early 90s when I was 4 or 5 my uncle had AIDS and a brain tumor, he was terminal and was nearing death, he only had a few months left at most. I dont remember a great deal but my mother tells me that he was obsessed with me and loved me greatly, she tells me that we would spend hours and hours together, just playing. My mother didnt tell me he was terminal, for obvious reasons, me just being 3 or 4. She just told me that he was sick but left it at that. Anyway, one day I woke up from a nap and walked out of my room(my uncle used to live with us before he moved to the hospital but not during this event). I see my uncle standing there, outside my door wearing an all white tuxedo just looking at me, and I remember that he looked beautiful, he was a very handsome man. But he wouldnt say anything, just look at me and smiled. After a few seconds I ran down to tell my mom. My mom said it was impossible since he was in the hospital and when we went togo check together he was no longer there.

The next day at work my mom told her secretary who I believe was Philipino what had happened and what I had seen. She told my mother that in her culture, the spirits of the ill appeared before loved ones before death to say their last good byes. Two days later my uncle died. To this day I do not know what to believe but it still is to this day one of the most vivid memories I have of my childhood.

^ thats scary and really interesting at the same time. did your Uncle have a glowing effect? faded in colour? transparent? or did he look real? also did you go back and check to see if he was there or vanished after you told your mum or where you too young to remember?

as OutThere explained above you could have been between being asleep and awake as you said it happened just as you awoke.

He looked completely normal and real just dressed completely in white and a little more pal than usual. No glowing effect or transparency that I can remember. I did not go back, my mom was very startle, she took me into the kitchen with her.

thats crazy because you wouldve just been like "oh hey, why are you wearing that white suit?" (assuming you talked like that when you where 5… i have no idea) and then latter on you wouldve learnt that he died… whatttttt.

I lost my parents both in this decade. My Father died in Fathers day 2001 and my Mom, January 17 2006.

Since I always would come over and help my mom with the house such as yard work and stuff like that, she intended for me to have the house when she was gone. I now live in the house and have since a week after her death.

Shortly after my Dad died, I had been talking to my mom and we had both been crying. I was hugging her and told her that when the time came, I always wanted her to make sure that I knew she was around because I knew it was going to be one of the hardest things in my life, to lose her, my mom who was my best friend. We did so much together since Dad was gone and that always helps somewhat.

I had several things happen since then to make me know my Mom was letting me know she was here.

The biggest thing happened one night in the bathroom. I had been looking in the medicine cabinet just looking at the things that were my moms in there. I never use the cabinet and so I just left all her things in there. I closed the cabinet and didn't think about it again till one night about two weeks later. I went in there and the door to the cabinet was open about 3". I opened it and really started to wonder why it was open. I closed it and went back in to watch a movie on the computer.

I started wondering of it was my Mom who opened it. I started telling my Mom that if it was her that opened the cabinet to open it again so I would know it was her. I went back in about two hours later and yes, the cabinet was once again open exactly the same 3" as it was before. I was so surprised that I said a certain word because I got my answer. Coincidence? Maybe it was possible the cabinet door opened by itself twice in a row, but I don't know what else to think could have been the cause.

There had also been many times that I went in there in the middle of the night and would hear clothing rustling around such as it does when you get up off the floor or suddenly start moving. It was so loud and distinct that after hearing it several night in a row, I went outside to see if there could have been an animal keeping warm in the window well that sits inside the shower. Nope. There was a metal grate covering the window well so it was not possible for an animal to be in there. The sounds went away and I never heard them again when I go in that bathroom.

I have also heard a second or two of a conversation twice now when I would go upstairs at 1AM to leave for my short work shift at that hour. It would be as of the voice was right in the room or outside the patio glass door.

I've had a few other things happen here such as a single footstep on the wood floor in the room above where I sleep and a footstep on the carpet next to my bed one night.

In a non related even years ago when I was about 13 or so, I was getting ready to go to bed one night during a school week. I was putting something away in the closet and only inches away to my right, I had heard a voice warning me to not go to sleep. I know I heard it but I normally don't hear alot of voices coming out of nowhere and I just kind of ignored it and went to sleep. I really couldn't sleep and all I did was toss and turn.

On my wall, I had hanging a plaster casting that was the face of Jesus wearing the crown of thorns. My Mother had given it to me and it was given to her by one of her relatives. It had hung on my wall above the light switch for a few years.

Anyways, so I'm tossing and turning and about 3AM, I turn over and about a foot in front of my face was that plaster cast face of Jesus but only it was upside down. I was very religious as a kid and mumbled Jesus name and that face was gone instantly. The plaster cast face was still there hanging on my wall just as it had been all that time.

I have never forgotten that night and when I think about it, my eyes get all watery and I get a chill. I always wonder if that voice I heard that night was a spirit warning me because it knew what I was going to see during the night and it knew it would scare me.

That's about it.

im assuming that his mother saying he was no longer at the hospital meant that he died before Patmian saw him in the white suit.
Try reading it a second time...

My father has heard a door slam and then footsteps inside a church very late at night, when he was the only one in there. That really freaked him out, I think he stopped bell ringing a few months after that.
