Like someone already said, if you got the protective plastic on both sides it should be no problem replacing it, but if it doesn't, there is no way for you to proove to them that you wasn't the cause of the cracked screen. Which should be obvious.

Pics or it didn't happen.. I doubt it until i see it!

Hypothetical question, why if the iPhone was dropped immediately upon removing it from the box, with front and rear plastic covers still attached? Could it still be proven that it was damaged during shipping? Just trying to cover all basis.

I call BS on this post
it was probably dropped after it was opened.
these are packed in pretty tightly in the original Apple box, and I'm sure Apple protects the iphone box with bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts when shipping.

Dude, you could have seen in my post that the dutch local support line is closed. And TNT just denies it. I dont care about them, it's there problem with Apple, i just want a proper iPhone (which i've paid for).
You can call Apple in the Netherlands. Obvious things to do is to call Apple and file a complaint at PostNL (or "TNT Pakket Post", depending on how it was actually send).

Sure, it would have marks on the phone where it was dropped, it will always show along the sides of the phone where the destructive hit was if it wasn't in the box, there is no way around that. And if it indeed was in the box when it was already broken as the dude says, then there shouldn't be any marks on the phone as the box would have taken the hit or that it was broken when packed.

I fail to see why apple would pack the phone as they did if it wasn't secure inside the box when shipped though if it wasn't obvious damage to the box (which the OP would have noted on before he posted this thread but obviously not)..

But i guess the OP should be safe to get a new phone so i have no idea why he even makes a thread about it before he has done anything about it. I guess he's trying to figure out ways to go around it and that's why he's asking us before hand and blames that he can't contact the apple store. And honestly i don't wanna share all those little things that makes the apple store find out how to determine on how the damage may have occurred if this is a try to get a replacement after one was the fault of the damage..

It doesn't sound logical that he/she would receive the iPhone at night time when the apple support is closed either..

BUT, there is a BUT, i will not insult the OP by saying that he's lying. But i won't believe it either, hence i asked for pics or it didn't happen. If it is the way he tells us, he should have no problem taking pics of the phone and the box and share them with us!

^^^^ @ M Quick Either that or some disgruntled employee put it there. Who really knows. Your right though, if the iPhone sustained damage during s/h, then the box would be damaged too. Hmmm.... You wonder. Great investigation work.

Ugh, that must suck. Hope you get it sorted out today.

Posting on a forum is a good way of getting your frustration out.. shame about the hostile responses.:(

The phone could have been broken at the factory ( upon being packed or something )- humans aren't perfect.

stuff gets damaged in shipping. It's very possible it happened in transit. A call to Apple and they will take care of it. It's a drag and you lost some time, but you're not stuck with this phone.

Sorry to hear this. Hope it gets worked out soon.

Apple will require pictures of the device, if they're going to take any action.

Post pics here would help with your options though.

A shame?

You honestly think it's acceptable for him to call a hypothetical Apple employee a "retard" because an iPhone got broken in the mail?

I'm sorry, but I fully support hostility against such postings and you won't get me to apologize for that.

That's not cool.

My guess is packing of the phone is automated and that's where it broke. Impossible to break in shipping without damage to the box.

Don't know about impossible. If a sealed iPhone box were to fall phone-side down, flat on some hard smooth surface, I bet that glass could break with negligible marring of the plastic wrap around the box. Not one to try this though. :p

Unlike earlier iPhones, the 4 and 4 S boxes have no padding whatsoever inside the lid of the box. Probably to cut costs or whatever. When I got my iPhone 4 last year the lid of the box had a staple through it (just missing the edge of the screen) because the jackass at Best Buy stapled my order info to it.

That's like when someone uses your car hood or car roof to write something on a piece of paper with a pen, and doesn't think that the ball point tip can cause scratches to the surface of the paint.

**** off you dont know me. Beside that if you really ordered something from Apple especially the S4 you should know it's not packed with Bubble wrap, just a box. with the iPhone inside of it.

Anyway update. Called Apple, no problem the just told me to return it and the already have ordered a new iPhone for my girlfriend, case closed.

Pics of your girlfriend or she didn't happen! :p

I'm glad they took care of you. I don't remember if you posted that you have previous experience with Apple, but they are the most reasonable company I've ever purchased from (as evidenced by their customer satisfaction ranking).

You seriously doesn't have any clue, do you not understand that postorder company's deliver products till 7-8 PM. Beside that i live in Holland, it might be different from your country but here there is a possibility that some courier delivers your product after 6:00 pm (while the apple support line already have been closed). Second do you also understand that people live in a different time zone. I opened this topic yesterday night around 0:00 AM. I didn't had time to make a picture i went to bed straight after it, and while you where sleeping i went to the university to follow some classes. Just think before speaking.

So you made an angry thread complaining about something you imagined might happen in the future.

Perhaps you shouldn't be holding Apple responsible for your imagination.

Come back and complain if they refuse to exchange it.

You should try to get some brains dude you are lacking braincells. Dont tell me your personal life description about imagination nonsense. A failing attempt on making some sense. Dumb failure.

to the OP
you are a angry little man
you need to relax, and quit breaking your phones

Thanks for clarifying. I have to say this does help me understand your original post a lot more.

Perhaps you need to look back at what YOU wrote.

Seems to me like Small White Car's assessment is pretty accurate.

Perhaps you should try to make a compromise with him while buying some brains. He might offer you to share the half of it which you can use to be more clever. His post just describes alot of ignorancy.

Thanks, but my brain is just fine (don't ask my ex-wife though).

I'm gonna open a bottle of wine, and see if I can't find some 'ignorancy'.
